Nexus 4 vs S4

I work at a cellphone store in Canada so I can give you my honest opinion. I own the nexus 4 and for playing and doing trainings with the S4 for quite awhile it all comes down to your budget. For me, the price difference doesnt really justify the few updates on the S4, if money doesnt really matter, go with the S4 but be warned that nothing beats a pure android with the fastest updates. I love the S4 for its screen and the WatchOn app, but I think that the N4 still has nice days before him.

Wait for 5 days until googble io. None is sure whether a n5 will be released. Lg just released a new flagship.... Last time this hpappend the n4 was a clone of it.

The s4 is twice the cost. Not worth the difference to me either. Depends on your carrier though. Ib have T-Mobile and my non lte speeds are very fast

I agree. With the Nexus 5 not being very far away I find it very hard to justify paying almost twice the cost of my N4 for what's essentially a side-grade not an upgrade when I'd end up replacing it yet again for the Nexus 5. If you're running an older dual core android phone and don't own a Nexus 4 either, you could consider any of the 2013 flagships as a big upgrade. But even though the N4 is a 2012 device it's running hardware that's still considered current. I'd rather stay on the Q3-Q4 upgrade cycle instead because I never seem to like any of the phones that get launched in Q1-Q2 every year. The non-android phones also launch later in the year and this gives me the chance to see not only what android is cooking but everyone else as well.

This is the end all be all of arguments for me. Nowhere is there as good a device as the N4 available for HALF the cost of most other feature phones. HTC is selling the One unlocked for $575 and that's still $250 more than the N4. With the extra money I can buy an N7! The S4 may have some better specs but the N4 will always get updates immediately. Any bloat Google puts on the phone can be deleted easily(Books, Movies, etc) Carrier apps can't be deleted without root. AND the S4 has about 9gb's of storage out of 16 gb, that's crazy!

My decision has been made. I played extensively with the S4 yesterday and I just can't get past Touchwiz and the Samsung and ATT junk.

My plan is this. Watch Google IO next week. If something new is announced that will be released soon, I'll hold onto my iPhone until then. If nothing new is announced and the N5 comes out around Oct/Nov/Dec I'll get the N4 now and enjoy it until the N5 comes out. Pure Vanilla wins out for me. LTE isn't that important or urgent to me. The N4 is plenty good of a device to get me by until the N5 is released.

as they all say S4 boasts with candy-eye features but again, the reason i am on the Nexus 4 because of its insanely low price (i think this is ideal for smartphones). S3 and S4 prices are outrageous but again, they do have some nice features. As for the S4, i do not see any difference in terms of physical design from the s3, and the nexus series have changed physically pretty well each upgrade.

i would personally go for the s4 but the price is not what i think it should be, seriously a $600 for a phone?

Lets see if they release the rumored LTE Nexus 4 at Google I/O in a week or so.
The S4 looks good on paper but in real world use the Nexus 4 is much smoother.

My N4 worked great on Tmobile's LTE the few days I used it (around D.C.). I get great HSPA+ speeds so sort of a moot point. I did, however, notice VoIP calling seemed more reliable on LTE. That's the only reason I will or would switch it back on. My N4 is a modded beast, but the S4 seemed laggy (in the sense there's NO lag on my N4 whatsoever...no microstutters even). Yes, I disabled the gimmicks. I felt the One was faster/smoother than the S4 but still noticably less than my N4. Oh, and please don't give me put XYZ/AOSP rom on the S4/One and then....NO. Just no. I owned the LTE gnex and SGS3 with the same mods and the gnex was noticably faster despite the hardware advantage of the SGS3. Software > Hardware...esp at the point hardware specs are now...and nothing beats an AOSP supported devices. YMMV ; )

Broke down and ordered the 32GB S4 on ATT yesterday. Should have it Monday according to UPS. I expect it to be smooth as I will disable S voice and will not use many of the wiz bang features so they will be turned off. I must say I am disappointed in the Nexus 4 camera more than ever. I was at a family member's college graduation yesterday and was using my N4 and it was pretty poor. I wish I had my Note 2 or iphone 5 with me. I had my iphone in the car, but it was too late. Many of the others in my family had iphones and offered to send me pics...not a good showing for android yesterday. I wish I would have had the S4's 13 MP shooter...

I had ordered the S4 before my disappointment with the Nexus 4 not because of it.

Yes. Thankfully I was not the family photographer and my brother in law had his 7D taking pics but just because someone has a DSLR on site does not make it ok for a modern phone like a nexus 4 to suck so badly in a simple thing like taking a decent picture. I have switched out back to my note 2. I get my s4 Monday. The nexus 4 is in drawer status till KLP comes out.

I'm not a pro photographer but I don't think the nexus 4 is that bad. Low light pics are not great but most of the pics I have took are fine.

Yes it was in an arena and the light was not great except for the stage area. Could not even get a focus on picture or video. The video kept trying to lock but remained fuzzy. The N4 is decent outdoors but was practically useless in that setting. Just to be clear I realize the N4 icannot match a camera, even a good point and shoot but I was still pretty disappointed as the iphone pics looks much better.

works great for what I use a smartphone camera for - out with friends out on the patio, or a store item I want to show someone before I buy it or similar such casual spur of the moment stuff. I never found the need for really high Q shooter to take a picture of a picture frame in the store I want to show the wife before I buy it. etc.

I know what I do like on it. The fact that the S4 is going to be waiting half a year after my phone for KLP. What's 6 months in smartphone years? 7 years, like dog years? Actually, scratch that. I'm probably going to be be rocking a Nexus 5 phone while the S4 is still waiting for KLP.

Nothing to complain since it is so 'affordable' and nothing to proud of too.

I get that... but it's not like you have to sell me on the N4. I have probably had mine longer than you have had yours. I get it. Maybe you have never been disappointed in it, but I am saying I was disappointed in it yesterday. The camera has been mentioned as a weak point and yesterday I confirmed it. It is like you are saying I should have known better than to even try to use it under the conditions I was in? Maybe I should have known not to even have it with me and had another one of my phones... Glad it is working for your "patio" shots but the camera is weaker than it should be. What good is KLP if once you finally get off the patio, your camera is subpar? I think my Captivate camera rocking 2.1 was equivalent...

Occasional subpar photos aren't really a big deal for instagram or FB shots of me making bacon and eggs.

I am a satisfied N4 owner who broke down and ordered a GS4 from T-Mobile yesterday. Biggest reason is, yes, the camera.

The camera is a good reason to get something else for many. Posting for a better camera in any size category rewards you with higher quality pictures. Highly valuable to some.

The less light you have, the more gear you need to have good results.
