Nexus 4 will not wake up after sleep.

Problem: Nexus 4 falls asleep. If it stays asleep for more than a few hours, it won't wake up. A reset is required to get ot back on again. Also the light doesn't blink all the time. I had to download lightflow to get it to work.

What I have done: I called Google Support. The lady (who was very helpful) told me to reset the phone. I did, and it worked fine for about a day, but has since relapsed to it's former ways. She said if the problem persists after that, I can get a replacement post haste.

Now, is this all hardware or software related? From what I understand, Nexus owners are essentially beta testers for Android updates. If the issue is that I'm working with not-final software, then I can live with it, since it'll be updated and fixed soon anyways. However, if this issue is indicative of some sort of hardware failure, then I will order a replacement.

Too bad, because I really like the phone otherwise. It is both my first smartphone and Android.

I've no idea where you got that from. If Nexus owners are beta testers for Android updates, then iPhone/iPad owners are beta testers for iOS updates.

Anyway, it sounds like a software issue to me. If you're comfortable with flashing ROMs, I'd recommend you try to reflash the stock ROM and kernel. And do a factory reset, of course.

But if you're just a regular consumer, then send it back for a replacement. Having the N4 not wake up from sleep is not normal. (Otherwise, you'd have more people reporting this issue).

I read it around various forums while looking for help on this. I think I even saw it a couple times here, but when I think hard about it, I don't see why that'd be the case. It'd at least be an opt-in thing, were that the case.

If flashing won't void the warranty and you can give me a guide, I may be willing to try.

I found a long thread with people having this problem and everyone seemed completely content with resetting it, but man, I had to save for a while to get this phone, I can't have this thing half working.

Also the light doesn't blink all the time. I had to download lightflow to get it to work.

Not sure if that's a problem or only the stock notification light manager not having as many features as Light Flow. I think it's just the latter.

Sorry, what I meant to write was that it doesn't blink when its asleep. I was sure to keep the option on, but yeah, it didn't seem to want to work until I installed Lightflow.

And here is more news, if this can help find a solution: Even with Lightflow on, the LED light isn't pulsing anymore, even after a reset. I had just woken it up just to set an alarm.

Mine shut off twice at night. The phone seemed turned off in the morning. This is bad since I use the phone as an alarm and maybe miss texts and so forth. I would have to hold the power up sequence for a few seconds to get it to boot up. When I got it back on, I had a lot of charge, so, it was not like the battery died. It's usually plugged in at night anyhow.

I set the play store to not update automatically and I have not had any issues since.

My theory is that it gets hung up on a stalled out download and maybe overheats and shuts off or something. All I know is that I have not had any issues since reverting Play store to notify and not auto update.

Mine does it in the morning, too! Which is totally bad news consider I too try to use it as an alarm (luckily I use my old phone as an alarm too). So I guess it does something, possibly like you say, an update, at a certain time of the day to make this happen. It's happened in the afternoon for me, but its almost always a guarantee it's gonna fail to start in the morning.

The thing is, though, I turned off Automatic Updates in Google Play the day I got the phone (I read an article that said it'd help conserve battery life). Unless there's something automatically updating that I don't know about. The thing did say it was only for app updates, though. I haven't found an option to keep Play itself from updating. To be as thorough as I can be until I learn new info, though, I just disabled Google AdMob Ads as well. Certainly don't need that.

Well, I disabled the ads, and enabled then re-disabled auto updates. I had my first day of no lock outs, which is great! Hopefully that did it.

I face this issues intermittently. The alarm will not go off in the morning because the phone hangs some time in the night and refuses to come out of sleep. The notification led flashes telling me that there are some notifications but the phone itself refuses to wake up. I them have to force reboot it.

I haven't been able to pinpoint the cause and it doesn't happen every morning... About 50% of time. I use my wife's iPhone as the alarm to compensate.

This is an irritating situation, not knowing whether you will be woken up on time.

This has been happening to me lately as well. I've noticed that sometimes my phone will simply not wake up. It appears as if the phone is still on, as the notification light is blinking, but it is unresponsive to the power button. I have to force a reboot as well to get it functioning as normal again.

I don't notice it in the mornings, however, it seems to happen to me just at random times throughout the day. When this happens, there is also a quite noticeable drop in battery percentage as well.

Hopefully this isn't a hardware issue and that someone has come across a solution.

I have been meet nexus 4 cannot wake up many times, everytime i need press power key 10+ senconds, and than press 3 seconds to reboot it!
what happend about nexus 4 ?
can fixed it with software?

exactly the same problem here... would be very nice to find some solution for this - because other than that I am really satisfied with my phone ;)
cheers!

It doesn't happen very often but I've run into the same problem. For me it's always in the morning when I turn the phone on for the first time.

I had that problem -- again -- this morning. This time, Bluetooth seems to be the culprit, based on what the battery usage meter said about which stuff was sucking the electric teat. The battery was nearly full when I went to bed. When I woke up, it was about 14 percent.

When I hit the power button, nothing happened. Holding it down for several seconds didn't help, either. The LED was flashing slowly, so I know it wasn't powered off. When I tried calling myself, it went straight into voicemail. The only solution was to hold down the power button for more than 10 seconds, after which it finally buzzed and rebooted.

Really annoying.

I got this problem randomly maybe every 3 days. After rebooting the battery is still fine but then again I think it was in this unresponding mode not too long...

I normally wake mine up every morning by screaming, Google, at it. I find that screaming, "Google wake the f**k up", works best for both waking up my wife and my phone.

But you should probably call customer service to replace your device if it doesn't want to wake up or the screen stays off even by pushing buttons. :D

I am facing a similar issue, but I may have found a solution or at least a workaround here. There is an application in the Play Store called "Safe Charge" which promises to fix the problem. I have absolutely no idea what it does to the phone, but since the issue seems to be software-related I am willing to give it a try. Maybe it will force the phone to divide by zero at midnight and the whole thing will implode, but I will report any improvements ;)

Kind regards
Chris

I purchased a White Nexus 4 for my fiancee and she is experiencing the same problem.
My black Nexus 4 does not have any of these issues, and we run the same version of Android (4.2.2). This is frustrating, especially since it took me 6 months to convert her over to an Android Nexus device. Has anybody figured out what the problem is? She also had a couple of random reboots. The phone is 2 weeks old.

Ok, I think I narrowed this down to the "Slide to Unlock" security setting. I disabled it, and we have not had any problems for about a week now.
