Nexus 5: 4.4.3 rolling out now

This is how Google releases updates Over the Air (OTA) from a old article from the last Android update article last year.;

Recently, a Google engineer cleared the process up for Nexus users, giving them a detailed look at how Google rolls out its Android software to Nexus devices. Here is what he had to say:

Rollouts are conducted in phases. Typically they start at 1% of devices for around 24 ? 48 hours; we watch the return rates and resulting device checkins and error reports (if any), and make sure nothing looks wrong before sending it to more. Then typically it goes to 25%, 50%, 100% over the course of a week or two.

What the percentages mean is that when your device checks in, it has a 1% chance (for example) of being offered the OTA. If it doesn?t (randomly) get an offer, it will never get an offer until the next batch.

OH, once your device checks in and gets turned down, that?s it until the next batch. Mashing on the ?check for updates? button just causes your device to check in again, and get automatically turned down again. Think about how that makes your device feel! WON?T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE PHONES?!

That said, once the new batch does start, hitting that button does give you a new roll of the dice ? but once. Since devices usually only check in for system updates every 24 hours (I think? Certainly on a many-hours basis) this can get you your shot sooner than it would happen on its own.

So, mash away. Just be patient, and mashing on it more often than once or twice a day isn?t going to gain you anything.

Something that Nexus 5 owners should keep in mind today and over the next week or so. Typically, roll outs take about a week or so to finish up so those waiting for the upgrade Over-the-Air could be in for a bit of a wait

LOL

I can hardly wait for the update. The bluetooth experience on my Play Store-purchased Nexus 5 has gotten progressively weirder for a couple of months. And the camera bug keeps kicking in and eating my wife's battery charge. Had they presented these as a beta release in November, I might have made a different decision. Certainly a better informed one.

Re: 4.4.3 rolling out now

I have T-Mobile. I just hope I don't have to wait a month for this thing to be pushed out. I hope it improves battery life.

Updates are coming from Google not Sprint. Sprint-specific tweak updates are included in 4.4.3 that enables Sprint Spark data which is why they announced it. Everyone network is getting it at the same time in USA.

Update from Android Police that updates their first story about Sprint getting the update with some corrections.

This seems a common confusion. Google (other than the one unsaid exception a while back), forces anyone who wishes to carry a Nexus device not to touch it. They - the carrier - cannot modify the operating system or hardware in any fashion. Updates come directly from the mothership. There is no way for carriers to release the updates as they don't have access to the update unless they hack Google's servers - illegal and pointless as Google is, well, Google. :)

I am annoyed, my phone was rooted i unrooted it for this update because i was going to sideload it when it came out but nothing so far. I wish they would just release it already and stop playing games.

If you have had a nexus before you know how Google does updates, staggered, by imei. Give it another couple of days. Then people will start seeing 4.4.3

I have had a nexus before this one, I was just going to end up sideloading the update instead of waiting for the OTA to come to my phone.

It's not getting released. Google would have announced it already. I'd blame sprint as they were the only ones to say anything

You're getting upset over an update? Geez, you do realize they have to do internal testing before release, right? It will be coming soon, relax. It's an update for christ's sake, not a life changing event.

Sprint probably jumped the gun because it likely supports Spark. I'll probably sideload it as well, but only because you can usually keep your Root that way.

The camera is different for me...was this part of the update? Has to be, right?

I think you must have gotten the new Google Camera update from the play store.
