Nexus 5 destroyed

Every destruction thread always starts off with "I had my phone in my back pocket". That's where wallets go.

It was hehe, no worries, I have had my fair share of bad analogies when trying to describe something here XD
I know people who have their phones in their back pockets at all times (like my sister) and their phones are perfectly fine. OP didn't sit on it, he slipped on the ice which led to this :p

I'm sure there's a lot of people with no problems. But of all the times your phone gets destroyed while in your pocket, it's almost always in the back pocket. Otherwise there's just so few opportunities where your phone would get damaged while IN the pocket. I guess that's my thought process.

We've all been there.... With something. For me it was putting a Phillips screwdriver in my back pocket while working, forgetting about it, then getting in my truck. Ripped a 2 inch gash in my leather seat.

I doubt he fell with enough force to bend something like an HTC One. Obviously the screen would still have cracked but might not have bent like this. I'm not going to try but I bet I could snap the S4 with my bare hands, not the One :p

Yes, it's easier to break an S4, but I've seen an HTC One snap the screen AND bend with reasonably low force. Same thing on an iPhone 5, so that whole 'metal unibody' crap is just fancy stuff if you just won't take proper care of your device. Backpockets were OK with older phones, not with larger smartphones.

OP here. I have kept smartphones in my back pocket since the iphone 1 (2007?). I have never had a screen break, or a phone dent, or any damage. This was the first time I have lived somewhere with ice and that was definitely the determining factor in this scenario.

Most people won't get into a car accident in years of wearing flip flops while driving, but that doesn't make it the best practice. Same goes for smartphones and the backpocket: it's just not the best place for them. Sure, if an accident is going to happen, it won't matter if it's in your back pocket, front pocket, or shirt pocket. If it's its time, it'll happen... Still, sorry for your phone :(

Cargo pants! Problem solved, your welcome! My condolences for your loss. :'-(

So now that we've had ample discussion on where people place their devices and all, what are you going to do? Get another Nexus? Be phone-less for awhile? Go for another device?

My Visa has a 90 day damage protection on it too.

Give them a call and ask at least.

Nobody seems to have mentioned this but..... that really must have hurt your arse

Big time. That screen was a mess. It must have been glass city down there. My phone always goes in my front left pocket, just to make sure it has a better chance of surviving

holy WOAHHH! hope you're okay and that you get a new replacement soon!
But you really put the "drop" in "drop test"

Bought another 32 gig white. This affordable phone turned expensive real quick. I thought about a moto g, but figured i would just end up saving more to get a better phone sooner.

Good to hear and update. God that lg flex joke was good, it would be funny if you did get one after that though.

Well least it beats buying 2x a $700 phone.
Insurance this time? Could you get a quote for a repair on that. I really want to know if they would do that.

I slipped on some Ice on the stairs. I had the phone in my back pocket. I had the supcase unicorn bumper and a screen protector on. The case was USELESS. It was a pretty hard fall directly on the phone, so I knew something was going to be broken, but I didn't expect the phone to be bent.

I'm very proud that none have said anything about lawsuit.

Some people might say SquareTrade is a joke but if this happened to me I would just send it off to them - lol
