Hi! I'm Planning to buy the Nexus 5. But I heard that there are 2 versions, one for North America and the other for rest of the world (minor differences in frequency bands).
Would the North American Nexus 5 work in South East Asia & the Indian Sub-Continent (with the local carriers) and what bout Europe?

You answered your own question; "minor differences in frequency bands". If the North American version would work on the rest of the worlds carriers then there wouldn't be a non-north American version.

The only differences are in LTE bands and some HSPA bands. Both version should work anywhere in the world with GSM carriers. Just don't expect 3G and 4G data will always work everywhere. But at least 2G data will work. Both also support common 3G HSPA bands (900/1800/2100).

So has anyone tried this yet? I'm going to Singapore next week and hope to use my NA version there. I plan on popping out my Sprint SIM and picking up a local SIM.
Wondering what other peoples experiences are.

You will need to check the frequencies that the carriers in Singapore support, and check if the Nexus 5 supports it.

The Nexus 5 has quad-band GSM so it will work anywhere in the world. Just pop in a local SIM card and you're all set.

I haven't tried there, but I can tell you that "American" phones work fine in the Philippines, no LTE there, but otherwise work fine with a local SIM.

It will "work" (voice/text), but as Fred98TJ indicated, LTE may not work. To verify that, op will need to check what LTE frequencies are used by the carrier there, and see if those are supported by the D820

But even if the country, like the Philippines, doesn't have LTE, 3G will work.
LTE did not work in the Philippines simple because they don't have any LTE networks there still.
Everything is 3G. Had nothing to do with not having the right LTE band(s), they simply have no LTE there.

Not completely related to the topic but the 2 major networks in the Philippines, Globe and Smart, do have LTE.

I believe Globe uses band 3 and Smart uses bands 1/3/5.

I've always used Globe all the times that I've been there and have seen no LTE. My previous phones (BB 9900, Samsung S4) all "American" phones, AT&T branded (so they support all the GSM bands) did not get LTE speeds anywhere that I went in PH, but their 3G was very snappy, no complaints.
I'm not sure about SUN if they supposedly have LTE.
Should be a moot point as the "American" N5, supports all the bands anyway.

Sun afaik does not have LTE. But depending on your location, LTE is not yet available for some parts of the country especially in the rural areas. Even in the city, not everywhere is covered by LTE.

So basically what I'm trying to say is, we do have LTE here but it sucks balls.

Understand. :)

Thanks,

BTW, I love the Philippines. Planning on moving there soon.

Yes it's great here! Well, slow internet connection aside, I'm sure the warm weather and awesome beaches are what pulled you here :)

Oh, so just like Sprint here in the US :)

I wouldn't know about Sprint since I had my roaming set to AT&T during my vacation there in Seattle.
