1) It is not necessarily better. It is better in some ways, worse in others. The Nexus 4 took way better macro shots than the iPhones for example. So did my HTC Rezound. The only camera that is clearly the best IMO is the Lumia 1020...all the others are good in some ways and less good in others.The thing I don't really understand is why there should be such a difference in camera quality in today's top phones. They should all be as good as the best phone cameras and they're not. Why? Why is the iPhone's camera noticably better? Samsung, LG, HTC, and Moto don't have access to the same camera technology? Is there the same amount of variance in DSLRs?

2) I think the differences are because that is the place vendors are most likely to make compromises because of cost...people tend to care about displays and CPU and storage a lot more than cameras IMO.
