Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

Just got the nexus 5 in the mail... Is it normal for the power button to be kinda jiggly?

Yes, but being ceramic, it has a nice solid immediate feel when you push it, unlike a lot of the mushy plastic buttons.

What have you tried? Have you attempted to fix your APN settings?

I am having a similar problem, and so is a friend on another phone.

My friend used to have a basic phone and I had an HTC Evo Shift. We used standard SMS messaging (there was an app which came on my Evo) and all was well. I even used Mighty Text to allow me to text while on my computer.

Then she upgraded to a Galaxy IIIS, which came with Google Hangouts for SMS, and we found that messages would not be exchanged unless she was connected to WiFi. One day I sent her several messages, which she never got until she got into range of a WiFi hotspot, and then they all came in a big rush.

The other day I upgraded to a Nexus 5, which also uses Hangouts for SMS. Now I have the same problem. I have to be connected to WiFi in order for text messages to be exchanged.

I am on Straight Talk and my friend is on Alltel. My Evo was on Sprint.

I'm sorry but I feel like I should say something. After reading through this thread for a while I can see that the list of issues is WAY TOO LONG. Yet, for some reason, you guys are buying this phone by the truckload. Can't you see you're being screwed over? Let me explain it in an easy way: THE SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE DON'T WORK WITH EACH OTHER. Google doesn't bother to fix it because you all keep buying it. This is how business works. If it isn't affecting profits, why spend money to fix it?

The wifi issue is ridiculous. Change this, restart this, set this to this, are you people INSANE? Why would anybody put up with this?! It should work automatically without having to jump through hoops. At this point it's not a phone but simply a cheap machine which runs a glitchy version of android. Please, just because it's cheap doesn't mean these problems are okay. Get a Samsung, HTC, or even another LG built phone. The nexus is a flawed phone.

I'm sure this will start a flame war, but it's the truth. This is the reason companies can get away with this. You think because it's cheap or it has good hardware that these issues are justified. You all wait for that "magical fix" which will never show up or show up months later. My job is in technology and mobile so I definitely know what I'm talking about. My friend works for AT&T and he said the smartphone brought in most due to network issues is the nexus 5. Open your eyes guys, this is an issue.

I can help you! Return that phone while you still have the option to get a refund

You'll thank me later when you have a phone that works like it should 😄

You do realize there are some of us that actually love our N5 and encounter very little to no issues?

No problems here. I'm a doofus, I guess.:p

So far so good over here. Only weird issue I'm having is after a reboot it takes about 6 seconds before the power button registers clicks and turn the display off again. Is this normal or...?

Four months in, no problems, and still the best phone I've ever owned.

I doubt that entirely. No issues? There's no way you have no issues. Dust under the screen, reboot issues, button issues, network issues, yellow tint issues, speaker issues, Camera issues (definitely not fixed yet!), more than normal app compatibility and stabilization crashes, the list goes on. If you have none of these issues it's definitely not a nexus. There are few phones which live up to expectation. The HTC one is probably the closest android phone. Even windows phone doesn't have the issues you guys deal with. But if it's cheap it's automatically amazing apparently! The return ratio of this phone just confirms the issues. Yes, I called google to return mine and the rep said a lot of the phones were being returned. Oh well, I guess facts don't matter to loyalists.

No app instability, camera, screen, dust, dead pixels, random reboots, or WiFi problems. I did have a really, really bad button rattle on my first Nexus device but an RMA fixed the problem. The only problem I have with the phone is it disconnects from the cell network for 1-3 seconds about 3 - 5 times a day - something a software update should fix and in the meantime doesn't bug me at all. Other than that I have never been more impressed with a device. Seems like you're extremely biased against the device from your experience. It's fine you don't want to own a Nexus 5, but your one experience and tip from one rep does not make a representative sample. I know I'm happy with my device 100%. Nothing you say will change that. Cheers :D.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

I have no issues. None. Please don't be angry with me.:'(

I never had a reason to RMA and my device is awesome. :D

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

I've had no issues at all. Until today. But it's a software issue. Ever since daylight savings time ended at 2am this morning I can no longer set an alarm for between 2:00 and 2:59. It automatically changes to 3:xx after I save it. I usually get up at 2:30am and can't use my stock clock app for an alarm now.

The problem is gone today. I can set my alarm at 2:30am again without it changing to 3:30am. So I'm back to having no problems.
