Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

N5 32 GB barely 48 hours old and quite a few major issues...which are:

1. When its sleeps, nothing shows up on the black/blank screen like time/date etc as supposed to...I guess I can live with that!
2. I couldn't find my phone contacts which were supposed to be backed up on my Google account. I found only about 40 were synced though I have 500+ contacts. Looked up various forums and then sent all my contacts from my old Sony Experia Miro as a .vcf file by Bluetooth to the N5 and then downloaded that. Now I have all my contacts from my old Sony! Quite simple really.
3. The pulsing indicator light doesn't work. I can live with this but it would be nice to have it anyway.
4. No add-on storage possible (which I knew before I bought it)... so I can live with this too.

Minor issues:
1. I hate Hangouts as the default SMS app
2. What is it with the contacts thing and why can't it have a regular phone book like other phones do? Somebody should do an app for this.
3. The camera app is so boringly complex for a camera that is merely ordinary.
4. Definitely overpriced because of the above issues
5. Too much, in fact overbearingly Google!
6. Stupid pin to eject the SIM tray. Why? What's the warped thinking that led to another tiny, independent and highly-likely-to-be-misplaced device to do this function?

But I love:
1. The blazing fast speed for its functions besides connecting to the net
2. It's look and feel
3. No extra OEM apps which take up so much space....so more space for music, photos and stuff.

If the LED isnt working, take it back and get another one. You shouldnt have to settle. And what do you mean why isnt there a phone book? The is a phonebook just like all other phones. Contacts works just fine. You just must not be used to it. As for the pin for the tray, .....i dont see an issue. Thats on you if you cant keep track of it. I just leave mine in the box and i know where the box is.

Welcome to Android Central!

1. When its sleeps, nothing shows up on the black/blank screen like time/date etc as supposed to...I guess I can live with that!

This is not supposed to happen with most Android phones anyway when they sleep. Some phones have a feature like this, like Samsung phones if they have a special case, but this is not a typical feature of plain vanilla Android.

2. I couldn't find my phone contacts which were supposed to be backed up on my Google account.

It's probably too late to check, but you want to make sure that in Settings>Accounts-Google>[your Gmail address], that Contacts is checked on. If it isn't checked, then your Contacts in the cloud won't sync with your phone.

It's also not clear to me--when you say you have 500+ contacts, were those contacts on your old Sony phone, and they never made it to your Google Contacts in the cloud? Are you sure all of those contacts in your old Sony phone were associated with your Google account, and not the Phone Account? If those contacts were in the Phone Account, they don't sync with Google.

4. Definitely overpriced because of the above issues

I must disagree. Remember that flagship phones routinely run between $600-800 retail, without contract. The Nexus 5 is a fraction of that at $400.

5. Too much, in fact overbearingly Google!

But this is a Google phone. Would you call iPhones too overbearingly Apple, or Windows Phones too overbearingly Microsoft?;)

My nexus 5 16gb's lcd went bad within about 1.5 months of usage with no drops or water damage whatsoever.
It's the best phone I've ever owned but this issue has completely ruined it for me.

guys help me, i bought nexus 5-6 months ago, right now i noticed that it wont go into sleep mode, i tried pressing LONG HOLD power button, there is no sleep option.

i tried changing sleep options and security options in settings, nothing happens.

UPDATE: restarted my phone, it now goes to sleep mode. i was scared to death, i dont want anything bad happening to my phone.

any idea what might caused this?

Do you mean the screen wasn't turning off on its own? What was your screen timeout set to? Did you have an app open? Some apps hold the screen awake.

yes screen wont turn off automatically, i changed the settings of timeout, 30 seconds, 1 min, 2 min, etc.. no use.

also no apps were open, i closed them by going to the lower right menu button, and swiping the active apps. ( i think i should've closed the apps in the settings menu)

It may just have been some app malfunctioning. I wouldn't worry about it too much if it resolved after a reboot.

Do you have a case with a smartcover function (i.e., one that automatically sleeps the screen on closing, or turns it on when opening), or are there any other magnets around your phone? It's possible that magnets could be messing with the phone's sleep-wake sensor, although a magnet should actually put the screen to sleep, rather than keep it awake.

I have read cases where a magnetic field from very odd sources screws with the N5s smart cover magnets and really creates a mess of bugs.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems and Issues list.

I bought a N5 and within a day already returned it.

Here were the issues:

Screen too bright for night time reading.
Sharp edge at charging port rubbed my pinky finger raw when holding it.
Extremely slow when on WiFi (tested various WiFi connections) yet when tested, shows fast DL speeds. Unbearable.

Welcome to shoddy LG quality. HTC should make the nexus 6 seeing they did a beautiful job with the HTC one. What phone did you replace it with?

That's an overgeneralization. You're going to run into lemons no matter which device you pick.

The brightness is a setting, and you can set it lower. The charging port too sharp? If mine had continues bugging me, I'd have slapped the tpu case on it I bought for $1.99. The WiFi is an issue some have had problems with, evidenced by a couple threads, but pretty sure most figured out what was wrong.

But if for some reason you just took a disliking to the device which can't really be explained, I hope you find something you like better.

I think the build quality and everything about the phone rocks. In my opinion it's the best phone I could have. I'm looking forward to the line continuing.

Isn't it interesting how experiences differ? My last phone was an HTC One and I couldn't get rid of it quickly enough. My Nexus 5 is head and shoulders better. It's also quite interesting that your post was from an iPhone 5s.

Interesting indeed. I chose this phone because it suites my needs best. You probably have the nexus 5 because it suites your needs the best. Come on though, the HTC one is much better built. There's no arguing that

No, not really actually. LG isn't the best for build quality. I'd give Samsung the edge and I'm not a huge fan of them either. Probably the best android manufacturers for build quality would be Motorola and HTC

There just seem to be many more complaints about Samsung build issues on these forums than LG (like problematic Home buttons, debris in the proximity sensor, screen failures), but that could always be proportional to the much higher volume that Samsung sells. In any case, I just think it's an overgeneralization to call LG shoddy based on what is likely to be a small sample size. Show me actual numbers or percentages, and I'd be more willing to agree.
