Nexus 5: Problems & Issues

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

Hi everyone, long time reader of android central, first time poster.

I've had 4 android devices in the past 3 years, all high end, but this is the first time I've met this issue. I hope somebody has some tips.

Every now and then, happened twice now, got the phone delivered 2 days after release, Google services kills my battery at night. I put the phone in "night" mode ( sound off, mobile and WiFi data off) when I go to sleep, battery at 70+ percent ( I charge in the car on the way to and from work), and by morning it's just dead and needs to be charged. If I check battery usage, I can see that in 7 or so hours Google services drained the battery. (Not play services, just plain Google services, icon looks like the contacts icon) I also notice WiFi has used a surprising percentage, although it was turned off.

Anyone else had anything like this happen?

Here's a thread with similar problems (different phones) that people found some stuff that may have worked.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

Hi

I'm thinking about getting a friend from the U.S. to buy me a 32GB N5. Having read the article below, does anyone know if I would receive one of the 'slightly updated' models if it's ordered in the next week?

Nexus 5 with revised design now shipping | Digital Trends

Thanks

Probably, but depending on what country you're in, Google Now might not work.

I would believe so. It seems the 312k batch is shipping out now with the minor updates. As mrsmumbles said, google now and a few other things like google play music all access might not work

My replacement is a 312K and I am pretty darn sure the grills are smaller on it. No rattle which is great!

The numbers reference the first three numbers of the serial number. 310K was the first batch, 311K was the first revision and 312K was the second revision. I have owned both the 311K and the 312K. I like the 312K the best. The buttons are tighter and have a better feedback.

Re: Screen goes blank when rotate to 180

A recap of the problem with both the phone I returned (310k) as well as the replacement(311k). Rotating the phone to 180 degrees (landscape) the screen would go blank, rotating back the screen would come back on. I have only experienced this while outside in brighter light and it would be random. When it did happen nothing I could do, not ever a reboot, would make the screen come back when rotating to 180. I could put it in my pocket for a while a try again a bit later and it may or may not work as it should. I first noticed this while trying to use the camera app but when it happens the screen will be blank with any app I tried to use and even while @ the home screen??? I sure I?m not the only one with this problem and would love to hear from you guys, maybe some one has a fix.

Thanks in advance

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

My story: Ordered nexus 5 November 26th. First one had a power button that was so loose it rattled when you did anything. RMA'd.

Second one came, was all good until I noticed it had a very visible piece of dust under the glass. RMA'd.

Got the third one 13 days ago, but didn't open the box until a couple days ago. This one is fine...except for the pee yellow color calibration on the screen. I could probably live with it, but its definitely noticeable. Probably will ask for an RMA, and just return it completely.

Wow how frustrating. If you flash the Franco kernel, the pee color mostly goes away depending on how extreme that coloring is. Mine looks perfectly fine after flashing it though my color wasn't too bad. There is a toolset you can force the panel to be even cooler if you need but I believe he charges $4 and you need his kernel installed.

Yeah I saw about that, but I'm not much of a tinkerer.

Re: Nexus 5 Problems & Issues

So I just got my replacement today, and it's still got a bit of a yellow tint. It is better than the defective one, but not by a lot. Attached are pictures of the two Nexii, plus a comparison with an iPhone 5s and Moto X. The Nexus screens are both significantly more yellow than either the iPhone or Moto x. Not sure at this point if I'm going to keep it.

Also, here's a comparison with an ipad mini with retina display. The difference with those two is pretty big.

If it bugs you, keep the Moto X. The iPhone looks pink/bluish. I think that would bug me just as much.

Yeah that's what I'm debating. The iPhone is definitely more blue, but I think it's closer to realistic colors overall. The Moto x is blown out because of amoled, but is a nice package.
