Not sure why they decided to put some cheap sticker on the back of the Nexus 5, but mine is wearing off.

I put on a case on my Nexus 5 to protect the sticker for the time being, but what will happen if it completely wears off? Any other way to access the IMEI number? Thanks

I believe it's supposed to come off? Part of it pulls up without any stickiness. I put mine on the inside cover of the user guide for safe keeping.

Ah cool, I'll do that as well. Thanks

I would have definitely took it off first thing but wasn't sure if that would void the warranty or something. Put a case on it right when I opened it and have completely forgot about it (since the case literally hasn't come off once in the month I have owned the phone).

Your phone will brick. It will no longer be useable once the sticker falls off. Didnt you read the manual? I'm just kidding :D

The IMEI can be found in the phone itself by going into the settings -> about. It's also on the sticker on the box it came in. I removed the IMEI sticker as soon as I received my Nexus 5. I just put it on the inside of the box to store.

The IMEI is also laser etched onto the SIM card tray on both the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 5.

you can also go to the dialer and hit *#06# on pretty much all phones for the IMEI. I kept mine on as well but it started to wear off. I'm like an old Italian parent that way. Leaving the plastic on etc.

Removed mine with the factory screen protector, then put them on the box the phone came in for safe keeping.

I ripped that sticker off the minute I got the phone in my hands

I put my sticker in the box. Even though it's also on the box. But for those offering the fact that you can get it from the phone, that assumes the phone is actually working and can come on. So for people I wouldn't recommend throwing it away especially for those that don't have the original box because if something happens to the phone when it can't be turned on then you can't get it. Having it etched on the Sim tray is good. Of course assuming for some reason the tray isn't changed or whatever. So in short, keep the sticker but take it off your phone lol.

Nope, not a joke.

I didn't even realize that the entire black sticker was a sticker. I thought it was a section of the back panel with the sole purpose of being a smooth place for the white sticker to be attached.

I got the phone three weeks ago, and the wear has happened so fast that there is nothing legible left. This led me to wonder why they'd put something on the back of the phone that clearly couldn't hold up to minimal wear. So I Googled and wound up on this forum thread and realized that the entire area was just a sticker. I've now peeled it off.

Not sure why it was put there on the phone to begin with, if the point is to have people just peel it off and put it in the box.

My guess is that it's simply part of the final packaging process, to make sure the phone's IMEI matches what's on the box. You can always find the IMEI if the phone is on, but in the manufacturing and packaging process, the phone will be off.

There is such a sticker on the phone just to make sure the right SIM tray goes with the right phone in the right box... ;-)
