Nexus 5 vs. Galaxy S4 Google Edition

Back from the dead but:

Anyone still bouncing back and forth about these two? I have a note 3 and I love the battery that's bigger and swappable, but I love the aosp of nexus. That puts me in s4 gpe territory. How's camera quality comparatively?

I honestly can't speak from experience, but I would say the cameras will be comparable. Yes, you get more resolution out of the S4, but outside of hardware, their software is the same. The main advantage the standard S4's image quality over other devices is due to Samsung's camera software. If you want/need the swap-able battery, then maybe go with the S4. But then again, maybe wait to see if they do a S5 GPE in a few months.

I found an S4 GPe for $400 shipped with spare battery kit, wireless cover and case overnighted. However screen was replaced. Ebay should cover any problems but im still iffy. My nexus was new and is still mint. I do like the idea of that spare battery though.

s4 camera is better

When with HDR+ on nexus 5? Sticks how there's no comparisons on YouTube from all the bloggers. GPe devices must not give them any bias "sellout" money :-p

Had the S4 GPe and currently own the N5, and in my experience the latter is by far the better choice. Maybe it was just my S4 but the battery drain was atrocious on that thing. I even purchased a spare battery kit and that one wasn't much better, if any.

I did a test once cause I couldn't believe how much better the Nexus seemed than my S4 in this regard. I charged up both to full. Rebooted them, then immediately engaged airplane mode in each phone and let them fall into standby. In just under 20 minutes the N5 had drained 1%. But the S4 gpe had lost 5% of its battery--just from sitting there with the screen OFF and no apps running (at least none launched by me).

In every category I can think of other than the camera the N5 either matches or beats the S4. And considering its nearly half the price, there's just no question in my mind its the better choice.

Wow, I'll have to keep an eye on that then! Perhaps it's just the difference in processors? I got the gpe for the same price as a nexus 5 and it came with the spare battery kit, a s wireless plate and a flip cover so the price wasn't bad. I'm sure I can resell for more if need be.

Newer processor. Non amoled screen. Guaranteed updates for about 2 years ( not sure if s4 gpe if get the same support once s5 is here )

The processor I'll give you but for kit Kat does that really make a difference? The updates who knows but I'm sure it will be as long as Qualcomm supports it

Probably they might even release a S5 gpe and stop supporting the s4 gpe.
The only things that goes in favour of s4 is the camera.

The moto g runs KitKat just fine on snapdragon 400, I won't see a difference between the s4 and nexus 5. Battery life plenty of people said goes to s4. The rest is personal preference.
