Nexus 5 vs. Galaxy S4 Google Edition

I went with the S4 GPE because I basically never need to worry about battery life or wear since I can just pop another in. I also prefer hardware buttons since they free up screen real-estate even though the screens are close in size. It's also nice to have a phone that has a ton of case accessory options.

I am however a little worried about update speed but with Kit Kat being the first major update of the S4 GPE we will see what happens.

I have a S4 GPe and is a superb device! I am switching between it and a moto x right now and I always miss the screen on the S4. Having said that, I just do not know how I would resist the Nexus 5. Depending on how sweet it is, I may sell my S4 GPe and Moto X and just keep my ATT S4 as a backup in case someone in my family needs it.
I could go with 32GB and no micro SD card. I also hope it has the moto x camera because it is better after the update than the stock Nexus camera.

As far as I'm concern, until the N5 is released all the rumored specs are exactly what it is.......RUMOR.......Wait for the release then make a decision.

So I guess my question is, does Google present all these "leaks" on their own/allow them to happen or are they really this bad at keeping their new device under wraps until its launch? We pretty much already know almost everything about the phone. Do they do it to create buzz or can they just not contain the leaks? Anyone?

Since they pretty much own the internet, they probably do it on purpose

For me Nexus hands down is better. Not knowing the build quality It looks to be better than the plasticy S4. Two pros I have to give the GS4 is the removable battery, and the memory expansion. Guess we will see who will have the first comparison. Also let's not forget the pricepoint will nearly be half of what the S4 is and that is a major WIN. I personally can't wait for this phone.

Thats why I am going with the Nexus 5. I just dont have to worry. Using the Nexus 4 (and the iPhone 5 before it), I like knowing that I get the OS updates as soon as they are released.

The other reason to get the N5 is they don't have that stupid eFuse (KNOX) warranty status.
I'd dump my S4 if I could just for that.
Alas, the N5 won't be coming to Verizon.

Yep think I'll sell my gn3 and keep s4gpe as backup, I love the look of the n5 and really hope it has good camera properties too.

Why not sell the S4 and keep the Note 3? Having a GPE S4 and N5 is kind of pointless, too similar

In real world situations the only thing the S4 has up on the Nexus is its camera (assumplty). The rest I think the Nexus kicks the S4's ***.

Expandable storage and removable battery is the deciding factor for me most of the time. The reason why I chose the S4 over the One (biggest reason). Also, the S4 is looking like it's going to have better battery as well

Expandable storage and removable battery I will give you that of course if that is important to you its a huge factor.

However the difference in battery size is minor given the fact the difference in processor efficiency is much different. At the end of the day i think we will see very similar real word usage numbers from both.

We'll see. I want to know why manufactures don't make a two-piece metal phone with an SD card slot on the side and a back that can be removed if you unscrew the bolts (similar to the iPhone 5) This would give you a really well built phone, SD card, and if needed a removable back (with screws) Somebody make this already!

100% compatible software buttons with Android = Nexus. i despise hardware/capacitive buttons.

Most people prefer hardware/capacitive

Not sure about most, but a lot of people sure do. Capacitive buttons still do meet design standards (at least the last version I saw), but there are the obvious issues it creates with menu buttons.

Never said it was

it seems to me that the majority of that subset of people who would specifically seek out a "Nexus" or "Google Edition" device would actually prefer the purest Google experience available ie - no hardware buttons. this niche of customers is different than the unwashed masses out there. hence - your assumption of what this subset of customers "prefer" is probably false. the market for these devices is not the unwashed masses.
