Nexus 5 WiFi problem

Damn I am having issue with my RT-N66U. I was able to connect to the router and then I walk away (10 feet away from my router) and i lost connection. I had to re connect. This is on 5GHz. I havent try connecting to 2.4GHz.

My setup for 5GHz
Wireless Mode N Only
Channel 161
Channel bandwidth : 40 MHz
Extension Channel : Auto
WPA is AES

I have the same router and distance wise it didn't cut out but I do notice a drop in speed from the same distance as my iphone(30 feet or so) through two walls the nexus 5 was slower bringing in data by about 15-20%

i do have a wifi problem as well.
I am using a apple airport extreme and have a big drop in signal strenght from 5 to 1 bars when just 10 meter away from the router.
I have the problem on 2,4 and 5 Ghz.
No problem on the HTC one.
In areas were i still have about one to two bars on my HTC one i already have no signal with the nexus 5.
Also right next to the router all is fine.

Well there's a thing. 5gh working great this morning, excellent speed & full bars. To say I'm baffled is an understatement. It was failing miserably last night when I went to bed. Nothing changed, phone left on & charging over night. No router resets/channel changes.
Not complaining tho. More than happy with phone.:)

Try changing the channel to 36 or 34. The Galaxy S4 has similar issues with N channels on Asus routers and it has the exact same broadcom Wi-Fi chip as the Nexus 5.

Edit - Also change your security to WPA2 AES and make sure there are no spaces or underscores in the SSID.
Mmmm after that first lost connection, i reboot the phone and now its fine. I do noticed that the range on 5GHz is shorter than my notebook and ipad4. 2.4GHz seems to be okay with the other wireless devices around the house. Install Wifi Analyzer and the Nexus is at -50dBm (5 feet away from the router) where my Ipad4 shows about -42dBm.

Just in case people with Asus ac66u are wondering. I have been on WiFi 5ghz ac for about 5 hrs now and I haven't experienced any Interruption in WiFi signal... I hope it stays the same forever...

I have just the default settings on my ac66u

My gs4 never liked my WiFi at home..

Been running an older router for the past few hours and it worked fine for a while but now it's cutting out again. I've tried setting a static IP, changing the channel and changing/removing security but nothing made a difference. After about ten minutes of use nothing will load through WiFi (even though it shows full signal) until I toggle WiFi or aeroplane mode.
I wish I could figure out if it's a hardware issue or some kind of driver problem so I know whether to go through the hassle of returning my phone or not.

I have just spoken to Google customer support they will be emailing me a set of instructions to perform a data reset, if this doesn't work they say I will need to return the phone.

I'm interested to hear from people who are running this on newer routers. If there's enough people reporting issues on newer routers than at least we could rule out it being due to older router drivers not being supported

I've actually got a new router coming tomorrow (this problem gave me an excuse to upgrade) I'll report back if there's any change.

I think I have found the issue, this morning I turned off wifi optimisation and haven't experienced any issues today on both office wifi and home

Not sure if this is the problem, but at the moment I have my fingers crossed it's fixed my issue as it was becoming a bit of a pain.

Still waiting for my N5 just left Hodgkin's, IL but under advanced WiFi settings on my N4 Keep WiFi on during sleep is set always...I've also unchecked avoid poor connections and WiFi optimization. Would assume there should be similar advanced WiFi settings on N5/4.4.

Thought I'd chime in.

It looks like there are problems with it connecting to UNII-2 5Ghz bands(channels 52-140) - I'm curious if anyone is getting it working on UNII-3 Channels? 149-165? If it can connect to UNII-1 but not 2 and maybe not 3, I suspect some kind of driver issue. I also believe the chip in this one is the same as in the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Broadcom BCM4339. If people are working fine on that one, I suspect it is most def driver related. One person reported seeing their UNII-2 bands before the shipped update.

I have the same issue with my Nexus 5 and ac66u on the 5ghz band. My Nexus 4 and 7 are working fine. I'm currently using channel 149. I will try a lower channel tomorrow and see if that helps. Even if it does tho that would mean there's an issue with the phone since the others work.

2.4ghz works fine. So it's just 5ghz

Just got my new Nexus 5 in today and I've got the same issue. Interestingly enough, I'm using a DSL router from 2006, which likely doesn't even support 5ghz. If 2.4ghz is working for everyone else, I've no idea why it wouldn't be working for me.

I've also gone ahead and tested a Nexus 4 and an iPhone 5s on this router just now, and they both work fine. I've played around with some of the wifi settings on the N5, but nothing seems to change what happens.

After resetting the router, the connection starts back up again. Leaving the N5 on and connected but turning the screen off allows the wifi to continue working. It's only once you start using the device that the wifi starts to slow and finally stop working all together.

I hope this helps someone. I got my new NEXUS 5 and it did not connect to my router which is Linksys wrt54g - it would just keep spinning from authentication to obtaining IP and never connecting.

I then switched the router security mode to WPA TKIP and it worked. But this is not the mode I want to run my router, SO, I decided to return the phone/exchange it. Moreover, all my previous Androids were working great with it.

As a last attempt I was looking at several things when it stuck me that the firmware on my router was old. So I then upgraded the firmware on my router. VIOLA, it just seems to work now.. perfectly.

Am not sure if the phone is still defective because, in my opinion, any phone should work with any wireless router manufactured in the last 5 years.

If this post helped you, do reply or like.

I think this is a different issue. We can connect and get wifi working for five or ten minutes, but it slows down until it stops shortly afterwards.

May be its similar, because, in my case, it was authenticating and it was setting up IP - may be in technical terms it was connecting but disconnect in a short time. Anycase, thats just my experience. Good luck.

After testing on 6 routers 2 didn't work it didn't even pick up the ssid. these two routers where in channel 12-13 and wpa2.
Does anyone have it working on channel 13? apparently two models a us and eu and the us only goes up to 11.....
The new enterprise router a work auto channel hop's ( maybe this why for some people its fine then drops out then works again etc etc)
