Nexus 5x and Verizon

I'm not sure what you all are referring to. Are you talking about using Google voice mail with your Google Voice number (when forwarded to your cell phone)?

Rather than using the carrier voicemail, which is clunky on the new Nexus devices on Verizon, you can use Google Voice as your voicemail handler. As noted with screenshot by scottysize, there is a way to forward your Verizon phone to the Google Voice account strictly for voicemail when you don't answer your phone. When I was still on Verizon with my Nexus 6P, it still didn't work GREAT but you get transcripted voicemails at least, and they show up in the dialer in the voicemail section.

You can then manage your voicemails online, as well as greetings.

Ya but the transcription leaves a lot to be desired the last time I used it. LOL

Got my wife a 5X last week and she just had her number ported over from AT&T to VZ. Set up Google Voicemail and it works just fine.

That was easy to set up and works great! I called Verizon and switched my phone to basic voicemail, then added my mobile number to Google Voice (lite voicemail only) and it worked. I just followed instructions. It send you a text when you get a voicemail and the app notifies you on the phone. Both the app and text has the translation of the voicemail. So far it had been pretty accurate.

Is there something I'm missing? I have the messages showing up in the dialer properly, but when I delete the message from the dialer it doesn't actually delete from Google Voice and I also don't get the transcriptions in the dialer. They do show in the Voice app just fine.

To be honest, I had mine set up for about 6 months, then moved over to Project Fi for my phone service. That was 6 months ago, I don't recall how it managed voicemails.

Is there a way to port saved voicemails on the Verizon system over to Google Voice?

Not that I loved the Visual Voicemail App but I hate that it's not available on the 5x.
