Nexus 5x over a nexus 6?

Hi guys, I own a Nexus 6 but im thinking about changing it for a nexus 5x, but does this change is actually an upgrade? because the nexus 5x has lower specs than the nexus 6 but is newer, idk, what do you think about this? thanks!!

The Nexus 5x which my brother has is a quality little bugger. Some things that will improve will be the camera quality which is fantastic and the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor, if size matters and you are not a size queen (pun intended), you'll like the notable decresion of the size especially since its smaller and comfortable to hold but that's if you don't mind a smaller screen of course because if you do mind, this won't be for you. You might and most probable lose some performance especially when you factor the device only have 2 gigabytes and not 3 that the Nexus 6 has including the GPU of Adreno 418 vs 420 in the Nexus 6 which will be noticable in gaming, albeit minor, and on that alone it could be a drawback especially with reports of it stuttering and slowing down which has happened a few times on my brothers device but it's a usually fast and fluid device but it will most likely occasionally happen if ever. Another drawback is the removal of dual front facing speakers, it being monotone and of the two front facing speaker grills, only one is a speaker, and the other the headpiece, and while still loud, you will notice that missing firing speaker. The most probable upgrade for your 6 would be the Nexus 6P at this moment if you wish to upgrade as an 'upgrade' to a 5X would not really qualify as an upgrade but more of a sidegrade if you would but at this time, I would honestly just consider waiting for the next Nexus devices than going with a 5X/6P. My 2 cents :)

I would look to upgrade to the 6p rather then the 5x. The lag issues that plague the 5x will make you regret your decision should you "upgrade" to it.

I recently looked at moving from a Nexus 5 to something. A little over a month ago I got the Nexus 5x. when the Nexus 6 came out I went and looked at one, a rare opportunity here in Oaxaca, and decided to stick with my Nexus 5. But, a few months ago I got the urge to get a new phone and started looking. I don't get to see many of the new ones. I looked at LG, the V10 and Pure Edition, and I considered the Nexus 6p by Huwaei, and the Nexus 5x.

I chose the Nexus 5x for the better camera and the size. I don't need the fingerprint sensor. I don't play games on the phone. And, I have no idea what people are talking about when the go on about the "lag" so I'm happy with my Nexus 5x. It's a bit larger than my Nexus 5 and I honestly don't want anything bigger.

Disclaimer. For fun, I've been running the Android N beta for the last couple of weeks so I do have some glitches with that but they weren't there when I was running Android 6.

I would get the Nexus 5X without hesitation. I know there has been a lot of complaints about lag, but mine has been smooth, and the camera is much better than the one on the Nexus 6.

I did a lot of research before I purchased mine, yes I read all of the bad, good, and mixed reviews on this phone. The problem with the internet is anyone can call themselves a journalist and post a review. Problem is 99.5 percent of them are not qualified! Most of them are just repeating the stuff they have heard already (kind of like a bad rumour, in other words-too many idiots-think YouTube).

I use this phone as a daily driver, it multi-tasks just fine. I can listen to a podcast, while running Google Maps, and take calls all at the same time. No frigging issues. As a strange dude wearing a giant clock once said "Don't Don't Don't Believe the Hype" (that would be good or bad) do your own research, and don't listen to the Parrots(hopefully you get my analogy).

Peace

The lag is definitely real, there is a 9 page post just above this one currently with people detailing their issues. I have been an avid android user since I purchased my Nexus One in 2010 and out of all the phones I have had this is the only one to lag like it does. Does it always lag? Nope. Does it lag more then it doesn't? Yup. 10 seconds for the camera to start, keyboard lagging multiple words behind, phone comes to a stuttering halt when changing between apps, it's all there. I am envious of anyone who got one that doesn't lag, but I think its a good warning to the OP so that he doesn't get frustrated after he switches. Buyer beware.

There's definitely these types of posts/threads for any and every Android phone on forums I've ever been in. Some of it may have to do with what apps people have downloaded, what processes are running in the background, etc. I have none of the issues you mentioned for the record (only had this phone for like 2 weeks) but it's been buttery smooth and actually faster than my old Moto x pure edition

There, I fixed that for you (says the user with no lag who is sick of people acting like lag is par for the course for this phone).

Android Centrals own staff review, every single on of them had issues with the performance and lag on the 5x.

The largest thread in this forum is about the lag issues regarding this phone

Google 5x lag issues and you will come up with countless occurrences. The lag is definitely real for the majority of users.

Once again this is simply a buyer beware. If you are coming from a relatively lag free phone then there is a good chance this phone will frustrate you. I love everything about my 5x (size, camera, build quality) except performance, it just isn't up to par with other phones released at the same time.

Fair enough, but, from what I've read: Your experience is more the exception than the rule.

Reason I've been looking into the 5X was a friend brought it to my attention. Asked him about his experiences after 3-4 days of use. He still loves it. But one of his friends followed-up complaining of the poor performance and lousy battery, telling him he's (so far) one of the lucky few.

I've seen enough to give me pause, that's for sure.

The article you linked was prior to the march update which supposedly fixed many of the issues users were having (I know that Jerry Hildenbrand characterized it as a new phone after that update).

Ultimately, we will never know what percentage of users are affected, you think it's the majority, I bet it's the minority. However, there did seem to be some consensus that things improved for many following the march update so discussing anything relating to performance issues earlier than then is an historical exercise and nothing more.

I bought one through Fi for 199$. It's not fair to compare it to phones that cost 2,3 even 4 times more expensive. I can live with a little lag for a fraction of price of some of the other flagship phones out there. Pretty damn good phone for $200, lag and all..

It's like thinking a Ford escort is gonna go as fast as a corvette.. you get what you pay for

I agree models differ in performance but I don't accept that price means quality or performance. Sometimes price simply means a quality huckster peddling to suckers.

A "little lag" (for some definition of "a little") is one thing, but some owners have noted lags of up to ten (10) seconds--particularly for the camera app.

Still waiting to hear from people who experienced unusual lag as to whether the March update appears to have permanently addressed this issue for them.

You might want to take a look at this thread. I didn't bother going through it again. Certainly, when the update came out, feedback was mostly positive. Whether their phones subsequently slowed again I don't know...

Thanks for the pointer.

Pretty much what I'd read elsewhere. And, just as with those other places I'd read it: Thread peters-out with no definitive answer to the question: Is the performance improvement people saw a result of a cache clear & reboot, or did Google actually fix the problems? Were the people that continued to suffer poor performance and battery life getting less-than-stellar results because they failed to do a cache clear or FR? Or some combination of apps? Or is it, as some suggest, buying a Nexus 5X is like rolling dice?

If you use the example of the people complaining of camera lag, most of them would have already had multiple monthly updates where they still saw lag following the update. So this update was clearly different in that regard.

Good point. Very good point, in fact.
