Nexus 6: $649.99

The pricing was just shocking because the Nexus 4 was $299 and the Nexus 5 was $349.... but we also accepted less in exchange for those devices (Camera and LTE on the Nexus 4.... Battery, Camera and build material in the Nexus 5)

This thing looks rock solid from top to bottom.... and it's big.... Slightly...

If you are happy with your carrier (and your plan) and you are upgrade eligible..... You might as well pay $199 - 299 up front and sign a new contract... (I very seriously doubt AT&T is going to sell this thing on contract for $49.... They had a picture of the LG G3 Vigor which is $49 on contract... I think it was a typo on their part) I finally left Sprint and took my Nexus 5 to T-Mobile and the $30 a month plan.... so $650 or even $700 with this device on my T-Mobile unlimited data (5 gig at LTE speeds) unlimited text and 100 minutes talk (I've not gone over 100 minutes in the 4 - 5 months I've been on this plan) I basically end up ahead after one year (if you say $199 down and $80 a month for a comparable data plan with someone else)

But everyone has different usage.... I use WiFi at work and home... but still use roughly 5 - 6 gig of data a month.... 60 - 80 minutes and a ton of text messages..... so the $30 plan is perfect for my usage and makes it possible to upgrade to a new contract free device every year... Even at $700......

The Moto X is a good option. I think you can get a 32 GB Pure Edition for about $550.

In any case, people really need to set up their own "Nexus" savings fund. They should put aside some money every month towards a new phone so when October rolls around, they'll be ready to buy Google's latest flagship.

Agree Moto X 2014 is a perfect smaller Nexus option....

and basically what I do... the $40 - 50 a month I save now vs what I paid before I went unlocked I added that to my auto savings draft and it gives me the money to buy a new phone every 12 months or less without it really costing me anything out of what I was normally paying for years and years on Sprint (AT&T Before that)

So, let's say people were expecting the Nexus 6 to cost $350. They need to save an additional $50/month for 6 months to make up for the $300 difference. (You also need to account for taxes and shipping, but that varies by location.)

That just means that they will delay their purchase to April instead of getting it in November. There's nothing wrong with that.

By that time, there will be plenty of reviews on the Nexus 6, so people can decide if this phone is truly for them. Plus, the later batches are less likely to have manufacturing defects. Who knows, we might see some other color options, too.

Willing to buy off contract but going to wait for reviews of this as well as note 4. I'm on tmo $30 plan so going to have to see if a contract might be worth it or not. If its under $60 a month it might be depending on what it includes

Another point that's been raised elsewhere is that VZW quoted the retail price of the Galaxy Nexus as $649 when they sold it for $299 on contract, but when it showed up on the Play Store, it was $399.

Yeah...four months after it launched on Verizon and for the GSM version (which was available internationally a month prior to the Verizon launch). The Galaxy Nexus was hardly new at that point.

Google Nexus 6 Black Friday deals?

Does Google (or maybe some of the carriers) ever offer good deals on new devices (i.e., the Nexus 6) on Black Friday? Are these typically found online. Probably just wishful thinking, but I had to ask.

I don't remember if Google had a deal, but I think Motorola had some sale that completely crashed the server, and a lot of people were angry. Motorola had to repeat the sale a few times to make everyone happy.

The good thing about Google is that if you buy something during the winter holiday season, they usually extend the return period until January, so you have more time to decide whether you want to keep or return your phone.

or wait until December/January and watch the "This is just too big" craigslist and Swappa ads.... Might be able to snag a gently used one for $100 or more less...... I've seen good deals online just waiting a month or so after release.....

I don't recall Google ever running a 'holiday' promotion on any of its phones or tablets since the introduction of the Play Store, and wouldn't expect that to change. Carriers may opt to do so, but given the general historic dearth of advertising for Nexus products, I wouldn't count on it.

Yes. Last year the S4 was sold for $0 on contract at AT&T.

I think it's a foregone conclusion that there will be a number of promotions on some great phones for Black Friday as there always are. But given that (outside enthusiasts like ourselves) the Nexus name is relatively unknown, it's unlikely that carriers will invest heavily in promoting them when they can get more ROI by pushing Samsung, LG, HTC, etc.

Re: Nexus 6 is up on Play Store, price confirmed $649

There was some talk that the Play Store version would be cheaper, like the N5 vs carrier versions. No such luck :(

It seemed odd that there was talk of a cheaper Play Store price, given that the first mention of pricing, the Moto blog, said it would be $650 from the Play Store.

Re: Nexus 6 is up on Play Store, price confirmed $649

Just looks like the Nexus program has just become a full blow retail device.. Looks like premium design, components and build.... Will be carried by all major carriers in the US and will be taking up some retail shelf space in stores...

and after all that it's only $50 more than the LG G3 and $200+ less than the Note 4 and about $100 cheaper than the base iPhone 6.....

Re: Nexus 6 is up on Play Store, price confirmed $649

This is not a big surprise -- but still not good news.

For me, it's not the price because I think $650 is reasonable given the competition, specs, etc.

What I don't like is that Google seems to be giving up the idea of trying to wean consumers (USA) away from buying devices from the carriers (AT&T and Verizon in particular). Among the problems with that arrangement (and there are many): the carriers then have enormous control over the design of the phones -- the phones are designed for the carriers not the consumers. :(

I feel the same way. The whole intent of a single model should be freedom from carrier tyranny, esp Verizon. Hopefully Google will continue this and offer a refreshed N5.

The carriers would need to do more in the way of plans to make it worth our wild to pay cash money for our devices.... Only reason I use T-Mobile is because I get unlimited data (5 gig at LTE speeds) unlimited text and 100 minutes talk (I only average 60 - 80 minutes of actual talk time per month) for $30.00 a month...

The plans on AT&T and even Sprint with an unlocked or paid in full up front device are not cheap enough... Almost makes sense to just sign another contract and go two years....

Maybe Google just decided they couldn't win that battle vs the carriers???? Outside of Google taking a large chunk of the reported $60 billion in cash on hand to buy a carrier and run it their way (which I am sure Google has no desire to run a carrier) they are not going to be able to break that mold any... T-Mobile is doing a good job of shaking up the industry but their between major metro cities coverage is horrendous... and they can't have many more tricks left up those sleeves.... The GIANTS... AT&T and Verizon have the networks and have plenty of profits to offer better cheaper plans if you pay for your phone outright but they are not going to do it at the risk of lower profits... T-Mobile isn't doing it to be nice... They are trying to stay relevant and make money long term......
