nexus 6 back cover unstuck

NexusBackPlateSeparation2.jpgNexusBackPlateSeparation.jpg

I only had my AT&T Nexus 6 since Monday and yesterday morning (1/7/14) I noticed the separation. Does anyone think potentially wear tight pants (small pockets) might be making this defect worse?

That's the only thing that might make sense to me since that causes pressure to occur like if I bend over to pick things up while the phone was in my pocket.
I never dropped it or anything.

Luckily they were able to switch it out for me but the glue not being properly applied makes sense too.

That is absolutely horrible.

I really think it's the glue. I'm a girl and the phone is too big for pockets so it's usually in my hand or purse when out. Glad that you got it switched out!!

Alright, thanks for your insight!
If it does happen to be my front pants pockets I am going to be very sad. Hopefully this new one has glue applied correctly :)

Although, my coworkers said to get a man purse lol...

Everyone should closely examine their phones. Mine is not jutting out at all but if I look by the volume rocker, I can see the most minimal lifting (absolutely nowhere near the pictures people have and it hasn't even broken the seal) but I urge everyone to look carefully. If this is a major production problem, Motorola needs to know about it.

I thought I was seeing things earlier. I see the minimal lift on this new model and saw it on the in-store demo at AT&T.
The side without the power/volume rocker I can see zero lift.

I think this problem has been around forever, and it must come down to poor build quality, the 'leather' back on my 2014 X is coming off, and they had the same on the 2013.
It seems to get worse the bigger the device, wood backs on 2013, leather (mine) 2014 and resin even on the N6.
I had a Nexus 4 and 5 prior to my 2014 X and the opening the box experience, charge cable etc on LG was streets ahead of my Moto, which I bought because of great build quality results, which they clearly are not.
I also had headphone socket fail within a month, both the 4 and 5 are perfectly working and mark free.

if enough people visit this thread, and can concur with the problems that we have noted then we should get Android Central to email Motorola about this. Because Lord knows they won't listen to a couple of disappointed customers.

Well, we could also post this link on Motorola's/Google's FB page if we need to. They can't take down this thread unless Android Central takes their money (and I doubt that would happen).
Posting this on the Google Product Forums may help garner additional attention. We could also show this to Android Police and other sites too.

Have the same problem here since day one. Went to Telus to try to replace it within the two-week period and the brand new, boxed one they opened to replace with had the same issue right out of the box, so I didn't even replace it. [EDIT: Forgot, the one on display had the same issue too.]

I really wish Google just went with LG again; they've been doing it very right these past couple of years. Comparing the history of hardware upgrades from the Nexus S to the Nexus 5, the Nexus 6 should have been nowhere near it's current price tag. Plus, AMOLED/Pentile looks nowhere near as good as IPS, the LED light trend was broken, and the phone feels cheap and doesn't feel nearly as nice to hold as the Nexus 4 and 5 IMO.

The problem happened for me within a week of receiving the phone. I took it to a local repair place; at first, they thought it was the glue giving out, but when they tried regluing the entire back, they discovered that the problem was that the battery had swelled, which is on the way to failure, and was beginning to leak.

I unboxed my phone the sixth of january, ordered it with a case which I put it in right away. No wireless charging, turbo charged once for 15 minutes... And the backplate is bulging so hard It is pushing against the case and giving glimpses of the inside. Definitely disappointed and returning.

Same here too. I got my Nexus 6 for about a month. Today, I took it from my jacket pocket to see that the back side has come off. There is no way to push it back into place. To me it seems as if something were seriously deformed in the inside. It didn't fall down or get hit by something. It just rested calmly in my pocket when this happened. Might be the battery due to wireless charging. In any case, these are serious manufacturing flaws at Motorola's site. Luckily, I bought the phone over at Amazon Germany. So I get my money back no questions asked.

I've seen a few reports of this now, on here and other forums. Has anyone had this happen to a white N6? All the reports I've seen are for the blue?

Mine was white and had the same problem. Not as extreme as some of the pictures but noticeable. I returned it to motorola.

Did you get a replacement? If you did, did the replacement have the same problem?
