Nexus 6 battery after one week

For me technology has eliminated the need for the extra baggage of removable batteries and SD cards. My battery easily lasts a day and I use Microsoft OneDrive where I have unlimited storage. As always, your wants, needs, and mileage may vary.

Question for the OP, and I apologize if this has been previously asked and answered but I didn't see it in a cursory scan of the thread...

Were you by chance using your phone in a case that had any type of magnet to activate sleep mode? A number of people have reported issues with such in that their device would periodically wake the screen with no provocation, and this led to substantially expedited battery depletion.

I think a lot of this has to do with Android 5.0 lollipop then it does with the device itself. My N5 seems to have considerably less battery life then it did on 4.4. No real evidence of this, but I can barely go a whole day on my N5 where as I could go nearly 2 before. Same with my Nexus 10, but for my Nexus 10 it seems much better with 5.2.

I really like the idea of removable batteries and SD cards ...and the Edge is kinda sliq.

Removable battery and storage would be nice, but I honestly can't say I miss having them, but I do have to say that after playing with an Edge at a local BB for a bit, the rolled edge screen really does have good utility implemented by Samsung. Being able to very easily with one hand maneuver through menus and applications along that edge (at least, if you're right-handed) was great. If the Note 4 had been more closely matched with the Nexus 6 in terms of being my ideal phone, that feature might have pushed me to go for it instead.

No, I never use a case with my phone.

Not sure I believe stats from a screen shot with a pink screen.

You are cynical, I give you that. But I love ya anyway:)

The screenshot was taken while my "Twilight" app was active, ie between sunset and sunrise. It is not active during the day. Probably makes some, but minimal difference in battery life.

Here's my daytime screen:

And here's my battery graph. Note the drain after 1800 wasn't much different than in the daytime:

I like the notifications coming down the Edge but it's just a nice to have not a big feature...for me. The AT&T rep did a p1ss-poor job of applying the Zagg screen protector but he tried. I'm gonna have to look for a replacement.

One thing I'm gonna miss about the Nexus 6 will be the hugemonstrity of it. That is Man's phone.

I have a Nexus 7, soon to be upgraded to a Nexus 9. I think the 6 Plus would compliment that very nicely.

From a hardware point of view there is no better option than an iPhone in my opinion. From a software point of view though, that's a different matter. Thanks for your input, much appreciated.

I completely agree that there isn't a better phone hardware-wise than an iPhone. That phone is so solid and just feels like you're carrying a piece of art. I used one for over a week and it definitely had that feel. That being said, the software to me is lacking. It's the same OS, aside from actionable notifications, as it was 3 years ago. There's just no way to customize it. The software just really bored me and let me down. There was no way for me to make the phone mine other than arranging the sea of apps my way and having a wallpaper. If you could put stock Android on that phone, I'd be all over it. It's currently up for sale on Swappa and I'm waiting on a Note 4 from AT&T. I know the hardware isn't quite as premium, but the software, to me at least, gives SO much more than iOS. I am heavily invested in Google, which does play a small part in my decision, too.

Don't forget you can jailbreak an iPhone which opens up a TON of customization. ...up to 8.1.2 anyways. The Dark artists are working on bending 8.1.3 to their will. Its also true that jailbreaking an iPhone is typically a lot easier than rooting an android phone.

...just something to keep in mind.

That said I'm just not sure how the Note 4/Edge could be more premium. They're beautiful devices...IMO. ...and they don't bend so easy.

Right. But I don't root or jailbreak. I'm just talking about what you can do right out of the box. And that's where I felt that iOS was lacking for me. If I didn't have the option to use Android, I could live with it. But with great Android devices out there, the 6 Plus was definitely lacking in the software department.

You are so right. Whenever I use my 6+ I can't help but dwell on all that my Android phones can do that it cannot. When the Dark Artists create a jailbreak for 8.1.3 I'm on it like flies on poo.

That's all I could think about. Even simple stuff like turning vibrate off for an alarm or setting a specific volume for an alarm. I hate that the alarm is strictly tied into system volume and vibrate. That makes absolutely ZERO sense to me. Great phone otherwise. Just not for me.

I dunno, I feel that the iPhone is elegant, but too delicate. It isn't one I'd want in my hand all day. Too skinny, edges too sharp. Same thing with the Note. Once I held the N, everything else has seemed as elegant as a cardboard box. Except the Droid Turbo. That one, even though it's curved a bit like the N felt like a weird, heavy blob.

I don't think the N6 gets credit for its design. Which is funny, because everyone raves about the look and feel of the Moto X, and it's an exact copy. The thin edges and curved back make it super comfortable to hold, and even though the back is plastic, it doesn't feel like it because the phone has significant heft. I mean, yeah, I'd love to have been able to customize the back for both look and feel, but still.......I hold it sometimes just to enjoy it.

I case and protect everything because I tend to resell what I have when I move on. (60 5-star transactions on Swappa! Haha!) With a case, it feels just right. And I had a small case on it, but it gives it the right grippiness* and you still get the right weight and premium feel. I like the Nexus, too, but that 64gb is damn near impossible to find.

*is that a word?

The Nexus 6 back isn't made out of plastic. It's made from very high quality polycarbonate.
