Nexus 6 bought on T-Mobile use on Verizon

can someone tell me how to buy the phone from t-mo and not be forced to keep service active for two months? i went into the store on saturday and they refused to sell it to me without activating service and then said they wouldn't unlock it (which i suppose we already know is BS) unless i keep service active for two months. i have no desire to pay them an extra $90 when i'm already paying $700 for the phone outright...i'd love to just get the damn thing from google or moto, but i don't have time to sit here and refresh both pages incessantly waiting for inventory to pop up.

can i activate it and then immediately cancel the line? if so, can i do so with no extra money out of pocket?

Color me EXTREMELY pleased they would not sell you a phone and reserve it for their ACTUAL customers. Good on them!^^^^

Spare me the high horse...they were more than willing to sell it to me. I don't get the logic of saying you need to stay on our network for 2 months when I'm paying full price and buying the device outright...

The logic is they want more money, quite obviously.

...because they're not making profit on the phone when I pay them $700 for it. Right.

What's your point? Their goal is to maximize profit. That comes from both selling the phone and service. Stop pretending that you can decide what the "appropriate" level of profit is for a private corporation.

How about you stop with the holier than thou lecture about this? The thread is about buying a nexus from T-Mobile to use on Verizon...is it not? I posted my question because there seem to be people who have done it and wanted to see if they had any suggestions on how I could do it myself...not to get a lecture from you about how I'm a horrible person for even thinking about it. Merry Christmas.

Yes this thread is about using a T-Mobile phone on Verizon, which was exactly the topic of my post. You are upset you can't get what you want, when you want, in the manner you want, and you're starting an argument because I agree with T-Mobile policies that prevent you from doing so.

Perfectly on topic discussion.

Whatever, man. Like I said, others here and elsewhere seem to have done it...so spare me the lecture.

Okay so I am probably going to purchase a TMobile Nexus 6 off Craigslist and attempt to activate it on Verizon. I currently have a Verizon Moto X 2014. Is it as simple as swapping my nano sim into the Nexus 6? I keep hearing about this activating of service but since I did not buy it from T-Mobile would I have a problem of having to pay for T-Mobile service?

In the sake of squashing any arguments here and in case people didn't read the full thread, this is what I did.

1) Make sure you have a Nano Sim to begin with on Verizon Wireless. This is the only way it can activate on Verizon Wireless as Verizon will not issue you a new SIM for a phone they do not sell. If your previous phone is an iPhone 5, 5S, 6, 6 Plus or a Motorola Droid Maxx, Ultra, Ultra Mini, Turbo or Motorola X (2013/2014) and it is on Verizon, you are good to go.

2) Buy the phone from T-Mobile. They will not sell you the phone without a line of service. Sorry no way around that.

3) Pop T-Mobile SIM out and pop in your Verizon Wireless SIM. Give it a little longer than usual but it will activate maybe 1 minute tops with average signal strength.

4) Test out your texting, calling and data and your good to go.

5) Cancel your line of service with T-Mobile. They will give you some BS that they will not unlock your phone for other carriers but Nexus (like iPhone) are SIM Unlocked. Pay the rest of your balance on the phone and a prorated bill for T-Mobile service.

That's it your good to go.

Alternatively, you can just buy the phone directly from Motorola and Google Play. But since they are limited in stock, this was the best option for me a month ago.

Keep in mind, if you buy your phone from Google Play and you don't have a SIM, you can have Verizon activate the phone. This will not work on phones bought from outside of Google Play and Verizon (If they ever decide to sell the damn thing). Don't buy the phone from AT&T, it is branded with the AT&T Logo.

Lastly, I've heard of loopholes in getting Verizon to activate a new SIM without you having the "Right" phone. Simply go to any Verizon Store and take a picture of any of the Display phones IMEI Number. When you order your SIM online, give them the display phone IMEI number. It will register back on their system as Verizon phone. When you get your new SIM, just pop it in a non VZW phone and it should work. I haven't tested this out so be careful when using this option.

Good luck!

i just want to confirm that i understand this...you bought the phone with t-mo, then a few days later cancelled and just paid the pro-rated bill for a few days worth of service? that i'd be fine with, it was the "you have to keep service for two months" that wasn't cool...

i do have a moto x, so i've already got a sim card i can use.

Anyway I can use my Nexus 6 from Sprint on Verizon ? The Sprint service in my house stinks and Verizon is great

For the record it is not true to say Verizon will not issue you a Sim for a phone they do not sell.

I had two Galaxy Nexus's on Verizon, which use the bigger Sims. I walked into Verizon, unboxed two Nexus 6s from Motorola and they gave me two new nano Sims.

They didn't want to try to activate them so I walked out and had tech support do it. But bottom line if you have Verizon service they will give you a Sim that fits in the Nexus 6.
