So, who's a fan of the dual front-facing speakers on the Nexus 6? Hopefully they'll sound just as good as the ones that HTC uses in its phones.

Moving forward, it would be great if more companies put front-facing speakers on their phones.

It's great. Don't mind it being a bit taller...it was already going to be a big phone anyway :)

I really hope they sound great as I have an M* now and love the audio quality of the front facing speakers, and especially the headphone jack that pushes (pretty clean) mad volume to my V-Moda M100's! Hoping this is the first Nexus device that has great headphone jack audio quality/power! Also the charge the phone for 15 mins to get 6 hours, is another reason Im probably going to make this my first Nexus device!

Glad it has front speakers. I hate putting my hand in the back to curve the sound towards me on my Nexus 5.

This is honestly the only thing holding me back.. I'm really scared these speakers might not be as good. I mean why would HTC make the bezel so big on the M8, they said it has to be there to fit the extra stuff for the speakers. Since the Nexus 6 has like no bezel, I don't think it would have as much bass or loudness as the M8 does...which makes second guess getting one.

I don't think anybody is expecting these speakers to be the equivalent of boomsound on the M8 though? HTC has really committed to that being one of their highlights so if speakers are really what's going to be the make-or-break thing for you then you should pick up the M8/Eye since nothing else is topping that for now.

Otherwise the stereo speakers on the Nexus 6 should more than standout from the rest of the phones this year considering they all have either a single speaker on the back or bottom of the phone instead. There's gonna be reviews up soon of the phone since a lot of publications got them the other day so hopefully they'll be able to give a better idea of how the quality is

I was excited to find that - unlike the Moto X - both of the Nexus 6's speakers work when playing media, not just the bottom one. When Google says stereo speakers, they mean it. I'm not an audio buff by any stretch of the imagination, so I can only comment from my limited frame of reference. That said, the Nexus 6 speakers get plenty loud, but for example the bass tones in Vitalic's Bluesy Tuesday aren't entirely rich or full, and the bubbly high notes of Classixx's Hanging Gardens do experience distortion at higher volumes. In general though, the speakers do sound good. They aren't exactly on the same level as HTC's BoomSound on the M8, but they're definitely passable, and for myself - a person who rarely listens to music on phone speakers - they're good.

the speaker quality is what i have been waiting for. and i gotta say i am quite disappointed. it sounds to me like they are using the same hardware setup that was used in the maxx instead of the x. one thing that is never said about the moto x speaker is distortion. but the maxx was horribly distorted.
i am really just using this as an example. yes i know there are two speakers in the 6. but i also know the differences between the moto x and the maxx. moto has already shown that they are reusing last years speaker set-ups with the x. so i assume that they are doing the same for the nexus. the question was... maxx or x.

i also want to add that a moto x with two speakers is boom sound. the speakers might not be the exact same as what htc uses.. but the dac/amp/etc certainly are. this is what i was hoping for with the nexus.

I do hope you realize the Moto x 14 only has one speaker and two speaker grills. ...lolhttp://gizmodo.com/moto-x-2014-hands-on-better-smarter-bigger-1630844226

As long as it sounds good for watching YouTube videos on the fly. For anything else, I use headphones or stream it through the sound system for the TV...........

How do you stream it to the tv?

Another imp thing is the quality of the DAC and who made it, and whether it supports Aptx codec, and volume and quality of internal speaker as well.

I've read that it sounds good, but not quite as good as HTC's Boomsound. At higher volumes they tend to distort a little and they're not as loud or as clear as Boomsound when at max volume.

Still though, dual front facing speakers is better than a single, rear-mounted speaker. So it's an improvement over many other phones. Just don't expect Boomsound quality. HTC have really nailed it when it comes to the sound on their phones.

I was referring to Chromecasting movies or music apps. ☺

yeah i owned a 1st and a 2nd gen x. i also said ' a moto x with two speakers'...

upon further thinking, i came to realize that moto will not be able to 'tune' the speakers on a nexus device. hopefully there will be an api of some sort that will allow for developers to produce apps that will fix the speakers.

Also on the front are two long, narrow raised grille sections that look like what you find with the front-facing stereo speakers on the Moto G or HTC One M8. Unfortunately, these are not front-facing speakers. The speaker is on bottom and the headset speaker is on the top. However, like the speaker on the original Moto X, the single bottom speaker on the new Moto X is very loud and clear. Even if a manufacturer simply moves back speakers to the front, there is a benefit to the consumer.

But i will continue to allow you to think your moto x has two speakers. Lol

An OT question. But please answer to this.
I've a Moto X 2 and I find that speaker sound distorts at high volume. Specially ring tones. But no one has said that except you. I'm thinking of giving the phone for service but I'm hesitant because that would take a lot of time.
Is it normal, the speaker distortion? While playing music, it isn't much noticeable but ring tones definitely are.

I've had plenty of time with the Nexus 6... the speakers sound really good... surprisingly loud and sound great. As for distortion.. the only time it starts to run into distortion issues is when the source material is loud to begin with and the quality of signal is kind of crud. If I am sitting in a quiet area, max volume is actually way too loud anyhow.

When watching movies, TV, videos, etc... they are brilliant. They are plenty loud and clear.... things sound great. When cranking music, the lack of dynamic range is noticeable, but to be honest, if I am in the mood to listen to music, I'll plug in a set of headphones and use those. The sound coming from any of the downward or rear facing speakers suck sewage compared to these.... They may not be as good as HTC's, but they are near as much as it really doesn't make a difference for most use cases.
