There is a difference to note on buying a Nexus 6 phone direct from Google vs any other retailer, even if it's unlocked. If you purchase direct through Google the phone warranty is intact if you root, and support is provided directly from Google, not Motorola, for the Nexus 6. I verified this twice with 2 different technicians. However, if you purchase the Nexus 6 from any other retailer (Motorola, Amazon, BestBuy, etc) and you root, you will void the warranty. I verified this with Google and Motorola twice. The nice thing about the Nexus 6p beside the added specs and features is that it's only sold through Google so you know it will support root. I have Verizon with unlimited data, so the purchase of a Nexus 6 or 6p requires root to unlock the tethering. I will try out Project Fi first, but if it doesn't work for my needs, I will want to root so I can unlock tethering. So with Google's price of $549 for N6 64gb or N6P 64gb for the same price of $549 + better specs and a $50 Google play gift card on preorders, the N6p is the better deal. That's an apples to apples comparison. Buying from Amazon vs Google is an apple to oranges comparison. BTW, I did buy the unlocked 64gb N6 from Amazon, but it's still unopened and I have 30 days to return. I'm taking a gamble that in a few weeks Google will drop the N6 price to match Amazon, then I return it to Amazon and get from Google. But that N6p is looking nice too....
