Nexus 6/Shamu by Motorola?

There's a reasonable chance the 6" device was just a test unit. I'm sure Motorola are testing all sorts of devices at all sorts of sizes. The 6" unit may just be one of the test devices, whereas the real ready-for-retail unit may be the 5.2" one that's been floating about. Or the 6" unit could be a separate Motorola device rather than the Nexus.

stretching.

Why would the 5.2" Nexus be stretching, but not the 6" device?

Everything is just rumours at the moment. Not a single thing in concrete. Don't see why one rumour would be a stretch, while another is somehow plausible.

IMO it's a stretch to believe that there is active Nexus 6 test units with multiple display sizes this late in the game. we are only about 2 months away from shipping.

He's right... You are stretching. You're just trying to convince yourself so hard because you don't like what you're reading. I believe him. If he says its going to be 5.9/6.0.....get over it.

True. Maybe they're planning on releasing two different sized devices, in response to the iPhone? Who knows.

From what I gather there was a bit of noise about the 5.9" device, then all of a sudden there was a bunch of info about this 5.2" device with Snapdrgon 805 and 1440p screen and all that. Seems like two conflicting devices, so maybe Google will release two phones this year?

Or the 6" phone is a Motorola branded 'phablet' which is not a Nexus device, and the 5.2" phone is the Nexus. Or the other way around, where the 6" device is the Nexus and the 5.2" is a Moto branded phone.

For whatever reason, I just don't feel that Google would release a 6" device as their flagship phone. Could be completely wrong, but I don't know if they'd move into that category.

Let's keep things civil folks. No need to take it personal with any fellow member.

Thanks

More rumours/leaks/hoaxes - depending on how you want to look at it.

Supposedly TK TechNews have found a listing for the phone, however its name is now 'Nexus X' - New Nexus Device from Motorola to be called the NEXUS X! XT1100 | TK Tech News

Not sure how reliable TK Tech News are, but the listing has the phone as a 5.3" device (which is yet another different screen size than the 5.2" and 5.9" we've heard previously), black model, 32gb, Snapdragon 805, 13.1MP camera, Android 5.0 titled Lemon Meringue Pie.

Red flag for me is the link trail. It says "LG D821 Nexus 5 - 16GB (Black)". TK says the pic is real, but I'm not sure.

Also TK claiming a release date of September 17: According to new info next version of Android called lemon meringue pie 5.0 | TK Tech News

Remember to take large tablespoons of salt with this. I don't know how reliable TK Tech News as I haven't really heard of them before. Guess we'll see how reliable they are.

EDIT: TK Tech News are replying to user comments in the second link I posted. They claimed that they were given a link to the website itself where the site themselves listed the info and it wasn't TK Tech News just given some random screenshot. Also they claimed that last year the same website listed the Nexus 5 and under the Nexus 4 link (which was my issue with the image).

The leak you had earlier had a device with a 5.3" screen with a 17 September launch date, but now the leak is with a 5.9" screen with a halloween launch date.

Are there two separate devices? And what is most likely the release date?

Phonearena posting the Nexus X will be released by Halloween without a product announcement (similar to Nexus 5): The Nexus X (not Nexus 6) will be released around Halloween without an announcement

The author, Michael Heller says in the comments that the 5.9" screen is 'all set and done'.

Not sure if PhoneArena and TK Tech News have the same source, but they both felt confident enough to post it. Guess we'll see in a couple of months.

From the phonearena link -- I found this amusing. Remember Google's previous trademark problems with the Nexus name? :D

...Google will not be using that name because of trademark issues. Google already had some troubles with the family of author Philip K. **** threatening a lawsuit because of the use of the name Nexus. In ****'s story Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep? (which became the movie Blade Runner), the androids were model Nexus-6, so it makes sense that Google wants to avoid that name.
...

Special note: the **** in the above quote have been altered by the brilliant software on this site from the author's actual last name just because the man's name coincides with a common four-letter word.

I see you mention that the phone is massive, but how big is it really? In terms of what they did with the screen and bezel, does it look like a mammoth of a phone, or did they manage to get the 6 in screen squeezed in to the point where its not incredibly huge?

Any way I look at it, to me, a 6" phone is huge, especially when my DD is a Moto X. It was considerably bigger than a OnePlus One. Proportionally, though, it looks nice...Not like a Nexus 7 (2013) for instance.

Damn, the One plus one is pretty big, which puts this at huge. Im trying to make a case for the Nexus but it may just not be in the cards for me :( Bummer too, because this is the first Nexus I'd be able to jump on, since the 4 and 5 didnt come to my carrier

What are the bezels like?

6" is a pretty monsterous screen, then add on the bezels. It seems like it'll be pretty much impossible to use comfortably one-handed.

The bezels really aren't bad, but yeah, it's impossible to use one handed.

...but then again, I think the s5 is kinda hard to use one handed
