Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues (With Car)

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

I am hoping that it is!

Just super annoying that it is working perfectly for a lot of people.

Based on my experience with my Nexus 5 before I switched to the 6P, I'm reasonably confident David is right... I can't speak to the exact nature of the problem but it seems reasonable to suspect that google changed *something* in marshmallow (probably something subtle, which is why problems aren't widespread) which must not play nice with certain uses of bluetooth (for instance certain car communication systems and such).

(By the way, does anyone know if the whole we can't set usb mode default anymore thing is being addressed?)

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

Anyone using the N6P with a Honda from around 2012?

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing with setting USB default mode, but I started a bug report on my Nexus 5 w/ Marshmallow turning on MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode all the time:

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=192402

If that's what you're seeing, please add what you can to that bug report.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

I'll just state that I have no issue with Bluetooth with my 6P, it's working fine, including with Ford's Sync (have MyFord Touch in the car).

Nope, what I'm seeing with my 6P and was seeing on my 5 before it (after upgrade to Marshmallow) is that USB mode would keep automatically defaulting back to charge only mode (whereas I'd prefer for it to default to MTP mode. We used to be able to set the default). I've seen other threads describing what I'm seeing, though nothing official.

That's interesting, perhaps we should compare different models/years/etc of car (and such) and compare who is seeing what on what. I'd expect there to be a pattern (though who knows).

2013 C-Max, MFT v. 3.8. I haven't had the 6P long but have had no issues, including on a couple of hour long drives. Prior to this, I was using a Nexus 5 on Marshmallow and had few issues; the issues I did have were the Bluetooth sometimes (not often) losing connection and having to resync -- which it did quickly and automatically).

I did have an issue similar to your once. To fix it, in my case, I merely deleted the phone on MFT and Sync from the Phone. I then actually got out of the car and opened the door, waiting for a few seconds (since MFT stays on until the door opens). I then restarted the car, waiting for the MFT to boot up and repaired the phone -- making sure I granted permission for Sync to access the phone, a pop up that occurs on the phone a bit after they pair.

Hope you figure out what is going on.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

2014 Chevy Cruze Diesel: Nexus 6 Lollipop works. Nexus 6P Marshmallow doesn't see the car.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

Haven't gotten my 6P yet, and this makes me nervous. Forgot that it could be an issue. I wouldn't really care if phone doesn't work, but I listen to a lot of podcasts during my daily commute.

I've had no issues with my Nexus 5 in my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with KitKat, then Lollipop, and now been running Marshmallow for a couple weeks. Also never had any problems with my Nexus 4 in the same vehicle. Fingers crossed is all I can do, I suppose.

A fairly common denominator in the problem people seem to be seeing is Marshmallow. I don't think there's any consistent indication of anything being wrong with the 6P specifically. Here's a thread from over on XDA forums describing a problem very similar to the one I've been having:

Bluetooth calls not working in Marshmallow | Google Nexus 5 | XDA Forums

It seems probable to me that some change in Marshmallow has introduced weirdness with bluetooth support, but unless/until google or someone else can do some deeper digging all we can do is guess.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

Ford explorer owner here. I had bluetooth issue with my ford for years. Not particular any phones'
issue. Once in a while my bluetooth would just drop to this no phone support mode also. Best thing
you can do is to factory reset the puppy, or disconnect the battery for a while.

Last year, my cpu unit for the ford broke down. Swapped in a new one, haven't had problem since.

Hope it helps.

It doesn't sound like you have much to worry about. As others have stated, it seems their problem is more with Marshmallow than the 6P. Since you are able to use Bluetooth with your Nexus 5 running Marshmallow, it is unlikely you'll have any issues with the 6P.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

I'm having similar problems with my 2016 Mazda CX5. I could initially get audio, but no media to play :(

When audio works, it's not consistent. It cuts in and out.

While trying to get media to play over bluetooth, I gave up and turned bluetooth off on the phone and now I don't have audio coming from my phone at all. I have a little headphone icon on the top of the phone -- does it think I have headphones plugged in or something??

This is discouraging.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

A bit more information. After a bluetooth experiment in the car, I came back in to the house a bit later tried to play a YouTube video on the phone. I wasn't getting any audio output. I checked the top of the screen, no headphone icon -- good.. But where was the sound? I pressed the volume switch to make sure it was up and next to the volume icon was a bluetooth icon.. For some reason the phone thinks it was still sending data to the car? (which is turned off and is several hundred feet away).

I had to turn off Bluetooth on the phone to get audio to play through the phone speakers.

Something is definitely weird with either this phone or Marshmallow, or both..

Very Glad to hear that. What year? i Am hoping for no problems with my 2015 F150.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

I have a 15 WRX, i'm able to delete the phone from the car, repair, and it will work until next time I get in the car. If i try to connect it manually it will do audio only. Never had any issue with my OnePlus One or Nexus 5 with this car. Hope some kind of firmware is on the way.

Re: Nexus 6P Bluetooth Issues

Currently running a Nexus 6 with Marshmallow. It doesn't have any problems pairing both voice and audio with my 2015 Mini. I'll check out whether or not the 6P has any problems once I get home.
