Nexus 6P Microphone Problem

This was my issue too. I noticed whenever I would use my shoulder to hold the phone, it naturally covered the noise canceling mic and then the caller could not hear a word i said. Move the phone off my shoulder and quality returned to normal. Slightly annoying, not a deal breaker for me.

I will say though, this is hands down the best call quality phone i've ever used/owned/been on the other end of.

If "fixing" this issue means giving up some of the rather extraordinary noise cancellation this phone has, I hope it never gets fixed.

The same issue is annoying me when I record voice message to someone in whatsapp messenger, the voice cuts abruptly but the Messenger thinks mic is active. So end up with messenger showing voice recording length of 50sec when the actual voice in the audio clip is only say 15sec

Mine went to garbage at some point around or with the 6.0.1 update. I've tested it all kinds of ways and all different kinds of settings, but I think it's hardware, not software. There are 3 mics on this thing. The rear one everyone is talking about, 1 in the top speaker and 1 in the bottom speaker (where you talk off speakerphone). A few days ago I noticed that when I turned my speaker volume down (the speaker in my ear) the echoing goes away. It's almost like the microphone in the top speaker should be off when the phone is not on speakerphone, but it stays on and it can't figure out which microphone to listen to, and the echo the other person hears is because the mic in my ear is picking up their words.

Turn the speaker phone on, the sound comes from the bottom speaker. There are 3 different types of mics in this thing, and I think one of them is faulty in my case. Especially considering that covering the rear mic up does nothing to solve the problem. I hope my replacement fixes it. This is definitely not the norm, and, like I said, this one didn't do it out of the box. I've also tried cleaning the speakers and the rear mic with rubbing alcohol and compressed air.

For those of you who have ordered a replacement, please let us know if that solved the issue. I just got off the phone with Google Support and after performing all the tests they could think of, the only thing left is to send out a replacement. I'm curious to see if that fixes the issue. I'll know soon enough and post back once I have my replacement phone. Interesting that their support staff says they're unaware of this issue.

Thanks

I've had this issue for months now. Multiple people have told me I sound muffled and am hard to hear. I sent an RMA back to Huawei to fix the problem, they did temporarily, but after I updated to 7.0 the problem came back. Now Huawei is denying me a 2nd RMA and are blaming the issue on my signal strength. That's BS because I switched my SIM with my friend's S6 and the calls on that phone with my SIM were crystal clear. It's 100% a software and/ or hardware issue.

I experienced the same issue. I just dealt with it as I mostly use my headphones or speaker phone. When I installed the 7.1.1 beta, the problem seemed to go away, but after DP2, it seems to be back. Weird.
