Nexus 6p sale?

Last year we saw sales for the Nexus 6. Many Nexus 6's went on sale with a decent price cut after the Nexus 6p released. My question is whether the same thing will happen w/ the 6p now that the Pixel phones have been released?..

Speculation from another thread was that the 6 went on sale after the 6P was released because the prices were close. The Pixel phones are so much more expensive, they can still sell the 6P at the original price and it'll look like a better deal. Not to mention, the only place Google is actually selling the 6P directly anymore is through Fi, it's been dropped from the Google Store like a hot potato. It's up to 3rd-party sellers like Newegg and Amazon to discount the devices.

Exactly. No matter how much you want to believe it, Pixel is not a new improved release of the Nexus line. It is a totally new product line.

Here in Canada it seems carriers are removing the 6P as a option already, was looking for my brother in law and it's no longer available via koodo. Google asking carrier to stop offering it I guess? Sucks for people who want an affordable vanilla android experience.

I was thinking the same thing. & it's a brilliant strategic move by Google. As a savvy consumer I'm not happy. Had they not gone for the Flagship approach the 6p would have been forced into a price drop..

I actually think that many Nexus fans are clueless about how to market a device against the iPhone. Google has put the pixel line in a very favorable position. In fact, I placed my Nexus 6p up for sale on eBay today. My buy now price was $370.00. I sold the damn thing within 3 hours and the money is in my PayPal account. Yes, I received 75‰ of what I paid for this phone one year later. If you think for one second think that the pixel phones won't have a high resale value as well, then you're misinformed. The resale value is quite indicative of the phone's success. And, that pixel has some great features to accompany true name recognition like Google, which is something the Nexus really didn't have.

If you receive 80% of your pixel next year, which most iPhones could easily get, I'll be surprised. It's not about marketing against iPhone, if Google really thinks it will compete hand in hand with Apple good luck. We all know the main reason android has been able to properly compete with apple is Samsung's success, if you think that's false I'd be confident enough to say those are in denial.

I think you might wanna get ready to be surprised. Google is positioned just right to bring this phone to the market. Sammy is having big problems and although many love Nexus, it's always been niche. Don't think for a minute that Google won't be able to capitalize on the Sammy exploding phone failures. This is truly the perfect storm for the Google Pixel. I was going to buy the note until I realized Google was making a phone with its name on it, even before the note was exploding. Needless to say, I'm glad I chose to wait. IMHO, goodbye Sammy and most other Google knock offs. I prefer the real thing. And, I think others do too, including previous iPhone fans. Google has genuinely struck fear in the hearts of iPhone and Sammy fans with the intro of the Pixel.

BTW, the pixel doesn't have to retrieve 80%. of its original price in order to be competitive. Plus, I'm not sure your figures are correct with regards to 80% resale value of the iPhone.

You're right, on CL 6s are going for $350 all day. 6p are still getting $350-$450 too, that says alot about the 6p. I'll hold on to mine until tax time and get a pixel.

I hope both of your guys are right, trust me I wanna be by your sides if this does happen as I've got no interest iOS and want android to thrive...and if it's any android I do want Google's platform to be king. Fingers crossed

Yeah we know it's because of Samsung's popularity, but if it wasn't for Verizon and Motorola, it may not have went down like that.

Don't you think Android is already thriving? It is by far the most popular mobile platform in use today. No need to cross your fingers. The Google Pixel is on the way. The creator of Android is about to bring its own hardware to the game with the most popular software platform. If you watched 60 minutes, then you should realize that AI is the wave of the future. And, Google is a major player. Suffice to say, Google is bragging about its camera from the get go. You don't do that unless you know you have something no one else has. I hear plenty of people saying that DXO Mark is garbage because it gives some phones unusually high marks, while giving others lower. What if the Pixel should really be a 91 or 92 compared to the rest? Do we always have to assume the worst?

Well, I have used a lot of phones and smartphones. I was in possession of the original XDA (first Win Mobile smartphone), had Palm Treos, Palm Pre, iPhones and my share of Android Phones (SGS3, Nex 5 and now the 6P).
While I do enjoy Google's products, I am always in favour of a wide variety of possibilities to choose from, when I buy a phone. Therefore I hope that Google does good with their Pixels, I do hope that there will be more competitors, because competition is good for us, the customers. Competitors drive each other's efforts high to outrun each other in the chase for customers' love and they put pressure on each others product's price for the same reason.

Without competition the prices would be higher and the products would be worse.

my 2 cents

Androids marketshare is higher than iPhones based on earlier this year, Thanks to Samsung.

With that said, anyone can brag about claiming things to market their product....yes, i Know the Pixel camera was rated the highest and there's a possibility its that great (although if its based on HTC's phones we know the camera is meh, but i honestly didnt investigate that much into it). Anyway, lets see if Google can steal a bunch of the Samsung marketshare for their own, or if that was lost to Apple with iPhone 7/+.

I am not speaking in definite, i also have little weight on my opinion as ive been wrong in the past. I personally just think this whole Pixel is the next incredible thing is a little far fetched, i saw little it offers in comparison to 6P or other androids. As for AI i hope it improves, i have my 6P set on location settings high accuracy and take the same commute every day, google now still (after 4 months) pushes me to take the "fastest route" rather than learning my behavior and patterns...kinda annoying. Besides that i dont use Google now in my life much.

I didnt mean remove competition completely, i use and owned a ton of devices. Right now i have a 6P as my personal plys a 6S, G3 and Vigor for work/testing...but i use Samsungs and other androids. I agree competition is great but i dont see why google shouldnt be the master or premium standard holder for Android...i just hope they can develop to be as premium equal as iPhones.

That's exactly they're goal because the pixel was made to compete directly with the iPhone, now we'll have to wait & see what happens. I am a Nexus fan & value high end products at affordable prices. I think consumers are becoming more savvy & realize they can find perfectly capable smartphones for a couple hundred dollars.. I know you have to pay for a smartphone with a good camera so I'll most likely grab the 6p soon. I'll be dancing & skipping as soon as i get it too. Essentially I'm not a big fan of the direction google is going with their smartphones.

I know the Pixel was made to compete with iPhone, but as you've stated we will have to wait and see if thats successful. I am sure Samsung, LG and HTC all attempted to be Apple's competition so its not a first for anyone. The fact so many on here are banking that Google will be successful with Pixel is where i differ, not because they CANT but because there have been many tries and fails in the last few years. As ive said, I would love for Pixel to be the running success but that high price point imo will hurt it...not because its not worth it, but because for almost the same price you can get an iPhone. Majority of my friends and people i work with clearly state over and over that the only reason they dont have an iPhone is because of the cost...these are even Android owners. Now of course that doesnt account for much to others here and i get it, but to me that speaks vaolumes here in Canada since the starting price for Pixel (non XL) is higher than Note series. As you said lets wait and see...

I hope it does well, and they do have Verizon backing them like moto and the first droid.
