Nexus 6P: Various Hands-On Reports

Watching all these hands-on videos is driving me nuts. I want my 6P now! I'm so ready to get rid of this iPhone and have a better display.

Kind of in the same position except I'm on Jump on Demand with T-Mobile. I've tried the Nexus 6 and 5. Lollipop and now Marshmallow has refined Android so much I would be tempted to come back and especially now that my two things I hated to give up with my iPhone has been addressed namely with the fingerprint scanner (love Touch ID) and visual voice mail. The only thing I've noticed that I hated was the quality of Android apps versus their iOS counterparts. Those of you guys that have used both OSes what is your take on the quality of Android apps has it improved within the last year?

I'm returning my 6s Plus to get this phone. I was all in on Apple until I saw this phone. I pre-ordered the 6P 128gb in Aluminum with the Nexus Protect plan and still paid roughly $300 less than I paid for my 6s Plus 128gb without AppleCare+. That savings is being passed on to get me a Moto 360. I've been back and forth between both platforms for awhile and like what both provide, but Android has my heart. And now with a very premium Nexus, what looks like a solid camera, lots of storage and a fingerprint scanner, I'm back on board. I personally don't notice any issues between apps on the two platforms. I prefer some on Android and some on iOS. It just depends on the user and what apps you primarily use. The everyday apps (social media, news, etc.) all seem pretty comparable between both platforms. I also prefer the Yahoo Fantasy Sports app on Android to the iOS version, but that's just one example of an app I use and definitely prefer the Android version. I also think that the speed and fluidity argument that used to favor iOS by a long shot seems to be over.

Shoot me a PM if you have any other questions, I'll gladly chime in as I do like both platforms a lot.

Re: The Verge Goes Hands on With the 6P

I can't decide between the Aluminum and Graphite, lol.

I ordered the graphite. It's gotta be the graphite, because in different lighting it looks like the aluminum version. So, you get the best of both worlds. LOL! Of course, my biggest reservation about the graphite is, will it show scratches easily? I look at my current midnight blue Nexus 6 around the metal edges and i see no scratches from wear and tear. And, those metal sides are color infused on my current Nexus. So, i used all of those factors to determine purchasing the graphite color. It's my assumption that if scratches don't show on the metal of my midnight blue N6, then the graphite should be just fine. But, it will be a bummer to have this black/graphite colored phone with metal colored scrapes and scratches on it. I had that same issue when i had the HTC EVO3d. And, i said i'd never buy another black phone. I was doing repairs with Black sharpies and the color just rubbed right back off the phone.

I'll be shocked it it doesn't, aeronautical-grade aluminum or no. At least I wouldn't keep it in the same pocket with a fat ring of keys if it isn't protected with a case..

It will also depend on how the aluminum was anodized, i.e. will a light scratch be graphite or silver in color?

Do it, come out of your hypnosis. You can do it.

Dammit I thought for sure Jump on demand would have the new nexii. On the note 5 right now and really tempted for a 6p right now lol

My brother left nexus 6 to note 5. I thought he was crazy as I came to Nexus 6 from Note 4. He loves it though. Loves the S pen.

It takes all kinds.

Rocked the note 2 and the savior to that phone was cyanogenmod. Won't catch me anywhere near touchwiz anytime soon.

excited to compare the 6 and 6p for you guys and post it here. I'm thinking about ordering a 5x just so I can do the comparison. can anybody tell me the expected delivery date? I'm in the US, about 40 minutes outside Phila if that helps.

my 6p is expected to arrive nov 4, and I want the full 14 days so I can accurately review the battery (14 cause I'm returning it .... my wife would decapitate me if she found out I bought 3 phones this month!)

FYI I am by no means a technical expert, so this won't be anything like what you'll get from anandtech!

Just got on to share this myself.

As much as I'm enjoying my note 5, after watching these hands on videos, I simply cannot contain my excitement of the design and look of this phone. With Marshmallow, sleek design, hopefully great camera and battery, it might be enough to sway me back to a stock experience which I do miss. Gotta wait for some full reviews, hopefully they won't be too far out

Was torn between Aluminum and Graphite but went Graphite hoping that it's like the Black HTC M7 . That was just about the best looking for ever.

Still wielding the Black M7. Planning to upgrade to the graphite 6P because they both look similarly awesome. Can only hope the 6P doesn't show the bare metal underneath the black after a couple years like my M7 does.

I totally agree. The apps are much better on ios. I love the gesture based in and out and back in many of the apps on ios.

I have an iPhone 6 now, and I've been regularly using Android on my Nexus 5 since I switched to iOS last year. I don't really see a big difference in the apps on iOS and Android, and I often find it a lot easier to use apps on Android because of the navigation tools built into the OS. Moving between windows on iOS is a lot more work with the back button at the top of the screen, and switching between apps takes more time too. And the floating create button on Android is super helpful. iOS certainly works great for some people, but it doesn't do it for me in comparison to Android.

That's been my experience between the two as well. Some iOS apps look better. Some look worse. Some apps still don't scale right on the 6 Plus. I find it easier to navigate and multitask between apps on Android. I really like both platforms, but I just don't see where the app quality argument comes into play anymore.

I use both platforms. In my experience, it's not that the apps are better, but a lot of them do seem to update faster on IOS. I have apps that I use on both systems, and some will update to a newer, nicer-looking & performing UI on IOS faster as IOS updates. On Android, the same apps takes months to update. Once it updates, it works just as good on Android.

The material design of Android is a major change and I noticed a lot of apps still haven't caught up. IOS 7 was a major UI change but not as much as Android.

I have a password app that tooks months to update in Android. Now the app utilizes the fingerprint scanner. I have the Note 5 and this same app has yet to update and allow me to use the fingerprint scanner. Now that this functionality is built into Android 6.0, hopefully apps will update faster to support it.

I'm in the same boat but took the plunge and ordered a 6P Graphite 64g. Will either rock both or sell the N5.

How did the black M7 hold up over time? Did the paint come off easily?
