Nexus 6P vs Pixel XL

I played with the new Pixel XL at the Verizon store and did my own quick speed test by opening up apps, loading web pages, and playing some videos and here are my results:
My 9 month old 6P was only milliseconds slower usually and sometimes faster in my tests. The speaker on the XL was good enough for me (though it was loud in the store so not the best place to test) and isn't a deal breaker. The real deal breaker is the price.

Played with one at VZ store. Nice phone but price is just insane really. I would have bought the XL otherwise.

I played around with the Pixel this morning. There's no doubt that the pixel is a nice phone. But after buying a new 6P last week, and still being within my return period, there was nothing that inspired me to return my 6P and spend another $400-500 on a pixel. Just not worth it at all. Maybe if I already had the 6p for a year, had bad battery life or I was bored. I came from a Note 7 (all explode jokes aside) for all that it offered, while expensive it was worth the money, can't see that type of dough with the Pixel. Loving my 6P.

Very well said.

I played with the XL at my local Vzw store this morning and immediately ordered. I like the build quality and camera much better. Plus my 6p battery life is garbage. I gave vzw my old galaxy nexus and they gave me $200 trade in credit, so the XL was only $569.

So, 6p will be shipped off to my little sister so she can have a new phone.

Galaxy Nexus! Woah, I'll look at eBay for older version and try and get a trade off. I wish this phone was cheaper.

I agree. But now try it again with your 6P and a PXL both freshly factory reset and running Nougat and you'll be hard pressed to see any difference at all. Sadly I have yet to see one single solitary comparison reviewer do this. If anyone can find one I'd love to see it.

That's essentially wrong. Everyone in the 6P thread claiming that there is very little noticeable difference between the two phones has spent maybe 30 minutes with the XL.

I have both, and XL is much more fluid and responsive than the 6P through every app, every nuance and just in general. Plus the battery life is probably double what I was getting with the 6P.

Would you say that the advantages you have observed are worth the price of upgrading? I think there will obviously be some improvements over the 6P and a newer phone with newer hardware and software is generally going to perform better, but can the performance boost justify the bump in price?

Here's my issue..

I have updated my 6p.. It was built in August of this year.. not last year.

I looked at the the pixels and don't see how much better it is as compared to my 6p and I don't need weeks with a phone to see if it is more fluid than mine..

The camera is better on the pixels no doubt about that in some things and it will get longer provided updates for sure, but.... It's not much better in real world usage.

I get 6hours of SOT with my 6p.. And standby time is excellent too.. Mine has not been rooted but I am running the latest developer preview.

For many of us who own the latest builds of the 6p.. This is the norm... So it's not a big deal sitting out this cycle.

I personally don't care to have my phone being able to listen all the time.. Nor having VR capabilities matters not either. While the support tab is nice, it's not a deal breaker for me since I can find my way around the phone pretty well. My layout is just about the same with the latest Nova beta version, and to be honest more to my liking with a dark theme throughout.. The shortcuts on all the icons work great BTW without having to have it look like ios.

Next year at this time.. Since Google is going into making phones, if they actually make a phone that I want.. I'll try it out but this one doesn't really offer me anything compelling to spend this much on one.

I too would be interested in a real comparison between a 6p like mine and a pixel.. One that is taking into account what you can have on the 6p right now with a newer dated phone as compared to last year's model. I don't think it will happen since everyone here is so blinded by the pixels... But it would be nice..

Well everyone seems to have a different story as usual. You say much more, others say they don't notice, others say miniscule difference. That tells me there's no consensus. Which in turn tells me the difference can't be noticeable enough to care about if there's no consensus. That would make sense though considering how common it is for versions only a year apart to not have a really noticeable difference in performance. Thank goodness too for the wallets!

I guarantee you that in 2 months, you'll be complaining about the battery life on the Pixel.

Everyone always bitches about the battery at some point.

3450 maH = 3450 maH
I might believe 10% or even 20% better, but not 100% better (which is what double is).

Yeah and a gallon of gas is a gallon of gas, but that doesn't mean a Camry and a Silverado get the same gas mileage. I averaged 2-2 1/2 hours sot with between 10-12 hours total usage time on the 6P. I average 4-4 1/2 hours sot with between 16-18 total usage hours on the XL.

That's cool y'all like your 6ps. I like it too, that's why I bought it on launch day. All I'm saying is that once both phones are loaded up with apps and app data, and your caches have data in them, your syncs are in full force, (you know real world usage that you guys want people to test), the pixels consistently perform better, everyday.

You guys can't justify the upgrade, cool. But that doesn't mean that the phone does not objectively perform better.

I think it's way too early to say it objectively performs better. I'm sure they said the same thing about the Note 7 and it kind of blew up.

Personally, if money weren't a limiting factor for me I'd upgrade to a Pixel just for the camera and unlimited photo storage. Better battery life and improved performance would be gravy.

Battery life differs for everyone. Too many factors go in to the equation. Including what apps you're using. I don't doubt your pixel battery performs better than your 6p. But that is your pixel and your 6p. I'm hoping Google has figured out battery like Apple seems to have. Because even if I decide not to get this pixel, I'll still be getting the next one.

It's ALL about the money. Google has been underpricing their Nexus line for years. Once they realized that people would have paid more for their Nexus phone, they dropped the hammer on the Pixel line. Do people really think that the new Pixels are worth what Google is charging for them? Not in my opinion. I'll keep my 6P until it falls apart.:p

The 6P was not cheap in Europe. they charged up to 700 € for a 64GB model, but in US the Nexus6P was much cheaper
Nevertheless, the Nexus was bought in Europe as well, so this could have been an argument for the pricing boost on the actual line of devices, so maybe this was the test run for he pricing of the Pixel model.

Just a theory though...
