I have used this Asus ME572C for the past couple weeks and it's ok. I am mainly an Apple user and wanted something cheaper to try with Android since it supports multiple user profiles (iOS does not).

I've also seen some decent deals on the previous 2013 Nexus 7, but never used one in-hand. Anyone out there that has used both of these specific models and any pros/cons? Spec-wise, I'd think the ME572C should be better. Thanks!

Here's a thread about this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-7-tablet-2013/470195-nexus-7-2014-a.html

Here's a quote of my spec comparison between the two:

Asus ME572 advantages:
Weight (9.6 oz vs 10.55 oz)
MicroSD slot
Higher MP on front-facing camera (2mp vs 1.2)

Nexus 7 2013 advantages:
Price - often on sale for $150, refurbished as low as $100.
Nexus advantages (updates, popularity for rooting/mods)
NFC
QI
Processor benchmarks higher than the Atom in the ME572

Pretty much every other aspect I could think to look at was a tie between the two. Frankly, unless the microSD slot is a big deal to a buyer, it seems like the Nexus 7 is the better option, even if it is a year older.

Well, I bought a refurbished 2013 Nexus 7 from Gamestop a few days ago. Here's my initial impressions and comparison to the ME572C. I might add that my primary use for both of these is playing Clash of Clans probably 90% of the time ;)

Display: Better on the Nexus 7. The ME572C sometimes initiates a screen extra bright/saturated before settling to the right colors.

Speed: Nexus 7 is faster. Apps load a bit quicker and seems more responsive. The ME572C sometimes had a strange lag with the touch screen. I have not run any benchmarks yet though.

Battery Life: ME572C is better. Even at similar lower screen brightness, and while playing CoC continuously, the Nexus 7 paces at dropping 27% per hour (3:41 pace). The ME572C was dropping only at 20% per hour (4:57 pace) and with Asus Battery Saver on, ME572C dropped at 18% per hour (5:33 pace). Compared to my iPad Mini 2, it only dropped at 14% per hour (7:01 pace).

Charging Time: ME572C is better. Nexus 7 charged at about 22% per hour (4:32 pace). ME572C charged at about 34% per hour (2:56 pace).

Heat: Both get a little warm during gaming use. ME572C maybe a couple ticks warmer.

WiFi: Nexus 7 is better since it is also dual band. ME572C cannont connect to my 5GHz network.

Storage: ME572C is better since it supports a MicroSD card.

Software: Nexus 7 is better since it does not have all the Asus bloatware that cannot be removed. However, I do like that you don't have to swipe to see the battery percentage on the ME572C. Nexus 7 also just updated to Lollipop 5.0.2 a few days ago. As of 1/24, no update yet for the ME572C.

Speakers: Nexus 7 speaker placement is much better. When using the ME572C in landscape, you hands directly cover the speakers and muffle them. Poor design. If not covered, the actual sound on both is fine.

Design: Prefer holding the Nexus 7. Not a fan of the ME572C sharper corners. Thin and light though. I also prefer the sleep and volume button locations on the Nexus 7 (when portrait, I like sleep above volume, not the reverse on the ME572C).

Multiple Profiles: This is the main reason I am using this instead of my iPad Mini 2. Both Nexus 7 and ME572C I am using with 4 profiles. Both set up and switch just fine...maybe a bit quicker switch on the Nexus 7.

I think it's basically a decision of screen/speed/WiFi connectivity vs battery life/storage expansion.
Let me know if anyone has any questions or feedback! Thanks.

I'm on an Asus me572c, and I think it's great. It has QI FYI, but my previous tablet was a nook HD. I personally think it's a great deal, but others may think differently.

Thanks to everyone who responded. Seems like there is not much to say beyond what the spec comparison tells you. I'm a little surprised the nexus feels faster. In terms of cpu benchmarks the Atom in the Asus runs circles around the cpu in the Nexus.

The 2013 nexus got Marshmallow. The Asus might also get it, but as of now there are no announcements and Asus has a bad track record on updates. There is a decent marshmallow rom in circulation for the Asus though.

Can anyone compare the tablets on ease and risks of rooting?

You're the only person I've found anywhere that says that the ME572C is QI compatible. Can you verify and let us know which charger you use?
