Nexus 7 2013 won't boot past "Google" and can't get past recovery screen

I let my girlfriend use my old tablet and now it won't boot. When it turns on, it shows "Google" and doesn't go past that. When I press and hold power and volume down, I get to the boot loader, but when I select Recovery Mode, it just reboots the device and goes back to the "Google" screen. Nothing past that. This is on a stock image.

What can I do? Are there any utilities I can run via USB on a PC that would reset this thing? Thanks.

Sorry, if you can't get into Recovery mode you're out of luck. AFAIK that's the only way to flash images, wipe the system cache or perform a Factory reset.
You could try letting the battery run down completely until it shuts off, then charge it up again and give it another whack, but that's a long shot.

Thanks. After literally a dozen attempts, I decided to smack the hell out of it and it started booting up.

Depending on where you smacked it, there are a couple of connectors inside that may have come loose and by smacking it reseated that connector. I've had the same happen with my Nexus 7 and fixed it the same way... :-)

Hi, welcome to AC!

Glad you found this thread useful , although it's not normal part of diagnosing a issue , it seemed to work :))

Welcome to Android Central! If you have any important data on that tablet, make sure it's backed up somewhere, since the tablet might be about to fail completely.

Can't believe, but light knocking on the back cover helped me get past Google logo.
Thanks a lot!
