nexus 7 a bit slow now

I don't know if it's because of my installed apps or if it's because if my tablet accidentally fell. :\

I'm wondering if a fall from about 14 inches off a very low beside table onto carpet (it may have banged into one of the table legs) could cause the Nexus 7 to become slow?

I was watching Netflix in bed one night and fell asleep. When I woke up the tablet was on the floor so I guess I turned over in my sleep and knocked it over. Is it possible this is causing the slowdown? There is no visible physical damage at all.

Or is it more likely my installed apps and widgets? I put Avast and GoWeatherEX, etc. The slowdown happened at about the same time - after the fall, and after installing the apps.

I doubt it was the fall. Security software can definitely slow things down, especially if it's set to scan on a schedule. I tried Avast before, and don't remember any system slowdown, but I also uninstalled it relatively soon after because I noticed a significant increase in battery drain compared with Lookout.

There are plenty of people (including some of the revered gurus of this site like Jerry Hildenbrand--see this item) who argue against using security apps purely for antivirus protection, so you could see what happens if you just uninstall Avast.

Trial and error. Uninstall both apps. See if its still slow, if not, then its one of those two apps. Install one, see if it lags. If not, then try the other app. Good luck.

I would say it is not the fall as well. See what apps are using most of your memory. Go to settings->apps->running. That will be a good indicator.

Oh wow, it was Avast. Noticeably faster after uninstall.

I only use Google Play so bye bye went Avast. Thanks again!

Edit: Decided I don't use GoWeatherEX that much either - uninstalled that as well and it went even faster.

Hmmm mine seems to have slowed down too, especially going to the home screen, will be blank for a few seconds before my icons pop up.......gonna have to see what's going on.....I thought it was because of too many apps recently downloaded too, but I still have plenty of space left. I did just recently download AGV, but didn't pay attention if the lag started after that was installed, but what diddy said about being on scheduled scans got me thinking

Not rooted.

I saw a much bigger speed increase by removing GoWeatherEX than by removing Avast so it was likely the bigger culprit.

The battery drain was amazing too wow. I would normally leave my tablet out overnight and be at around 75% when I woke up. Just now checked and it's 90% instead!

Clear the cache restart it and you should be set also toggle wifi if that becomes a issue it helps
