Nexus 7 acting weird after thundershowers...

Yesterday evening we experienced heavy rainfall with occasional cracks of lighting in our town. As the power was out, I was sitting idle playing games on my nexus 7. I had kept my tab in Airplane mode so that there is no transmission of any kind of electromagnetic waves to and from my device. (One of my friend's laptop got fired while he was browsing internet during a similar thunderstorm. I am not sure whether he was using a wired or wireless connection).

The problem is ever since my nexus has started behaving abnormally. Sometimes out of the blue, the touch input stops working. And after touching the same area multiple times, it suddenly comes back to life and starts doing things on its own. Then it goes back to normal. Is this due to the lightings, two of which struck pretty close to my house.

Can lightning damage a device even its not wired? Does anybody have any idea? Or is this problem common to nexus owners. Has anyone else faced it? Please share your thoughts...

Dude, I m Facing the similar problem from yesterday night in my google Nexus 4 mobile and i dont think its due to thunder/lightening bcos we didnt had any rain yesterday. i switched it off and switched on and it was fine but again today morning i faced the same problem, then installed a AV to check whether its due any virus, removed some threats and now its looking fine.

Will observer the case and will post you. Please post your comments on how is it working for you now.

This just sounds like simple screen lag. Many people started complaining of similar stuff when the 4.2.x updates hit. You might want to try restoring it to 4.1.2 which is largely considered to be a more stable version. To do the restore you can grab the restore images from Google and manually push them to your device or if you are lazy you can use a toolkit to do it for you. You'll need to unlock your bootloader though so that means it'll wipe the whole device. I personally haven't experienced any issues on mine, nor has my wife but enough people are seeing stuff that I'm pretty sure something is up. 4.3 is supposed to be coming soon (rumors say 6/20 but they are rumors) so it might be worth just waiting a few weeks for that to finally land and get pushed out to see if solves the issue.

With respect to lighting and your device, if it's not plugged in then no. These things are shielded to prevent levels of EM interference from messing with the device and to prevent the device from messing with other devices. You'd need a damn close strike to do any damage to the device if it's not attached to the wall.

Well, the issue is not that persistent now. But every once in a while it does comes up. I went through a number of forums and website and found that others also face the same problem, especially after the latest Android update. Now whenever I face this issue, I simply press the power button to lock the device and when I unlock it again, it starts behaving normally.

Thanks for the explanation man! I wasn't aware about the EM protection in the electronic device. As for the reverting to old version, I think I will let it as it is. May be the next version of android fix these issues... Just hoping!! :-)

Thanks again...
