Unknown sources checked; verify turned off (tried on too); appstore app downloads & can be accessed from notifications and several file managers. But when selected with the package installer, the 'install' button doesn't respond at all. Tried re-downloading; doesn't install any apk from Amazon. Amazon support has reported it to their developers. No response from Google. Help requested.

Do you have a screen dimming app like Screen Filter installed? If so, turn it off. I have encountered this problem before.

Problem resolved. An app, Twilight, interferes with Package Installer. The issue is not limited to the Amazon AppStore.
Thanks to B. Diddy also for responding.

It looks like Twilight also adjusts the screen intensity, like Screen Filter. It's weird that doing so interferes with certain button presses, but there you go.

I finally found the answer! Thanks to your posting that "Twilight" was the culprit, I uninstalled it and everything works fine. Hours of frustration ended. Thanks
