NEXUS 7 Announcement coming

Hmmm. I Don't recall stores having Nexus 7s before it's official release date........which stores are we talking about?

Haha.. it was funny because almost everyone was selling the Nexus 7 before the people that pre-ordered it from Google Play even got theirs shipped. Google tends to mess up every Nexus launch a little, so something to be careful about. Costco, Staples, and Gamestop were at least three retailers I remember hearing about that started selling the device too early. Or allegedly too early, the actual release date was a bit fuzzy from Google.

Probably why Google isn't bothering with pre-orders this time around.

Stores sometimes have had a stock of tablets before the release date but are required to "hide" them away until they are released for sale by the vendor. My sometimes faulty memory tells me that some N7s were sold last year in Tennessee a couple of days before the release date.

This certainly happened when the 32 gb models were released. I don't believe it happened at launch though...the issue there was that google was slow shipping pre-orders and then they showed up in stores...

I was hoping for a regular micro HDMI port like the Nexus 10. Just one more friggin adapter I have to buy now....

I hear you, but at least the new N7 will be capable of outputting to an HD TV, something that the N7 now lacks. I for one was hoping that they would make the new N7 have this feature....I do understand your dismay though on the added cost of an adapter.

Did happen with the 16 GB at launch. Engadget reports that Staples will begin getting the new Nexus 7 on 7/24 but is supposed to keep under lock and key until 7/31. We'll see.

I've got a paycheck saved up for this but will wait for reviews before I buy the new one. I have a 32GB N7 on T-Mobile and an iPad Mini. the new N7 will have to be really impressive.

Looks really good but if the build quality is not there then I might look elsewhere to replace my current N7 (which feels like it will fall apart by the end of the year sometimes).

Been waiting patiently for this. Not that there's anything wrong with the N7 i have now mind you.

NO WAY will I buy another one of these until they get the Bluetooth working in the original .... OVER 6 months to fix a basic problem like that is beyond ridiculous and makes Microsoft look like Geniuses ....

You can say what you want about Apples and iPads but the things just friggin' work as advertised ..... And I bet the Bluetooth works great in Windows 8 just like it does in my homemade tablet running Win 7.

First Android tablet I bought (Pandigital) had a bad wifi so I wait a year to afford to take a chance and buy a supposedly good tablet branded with Google itself and the Bluetooth is complete junk ...

Why do you have both?
Which one was bought 2nd? How do they compare?

What are you talking about? I use Bluetooth every single day without any problems at all. I connect to my car, tether internet from my phone, and play music through Bluetooth speakers.

I have both simply because I wanted both. I originally bought the Nexus 7 first and then bought the iPad Mini. Both are the 32GB cellular models.

What I like on each:

Nexus 7:

I can transfer pictures and music using bluetooth
I can run flash using Firefox
I can download movies and TV shows in the MKV format and play them. Don't have to use one app on my computer to load them
Play store doesn't dictate what can be allowed in the store as long as there is nothing harmful in the app

iPad Mini:

Battery life. This thing is amazing. I can use it all day with the display on. I've gotten as much as 15 hrs usage.
App quality. I have many of the same apps on both tablets. Most of those apps are phone apps upscaled to fit the Nexus 7. Mini has those apps with actual tablet versions.
I have a huge collection of TV shows and movies purchased in iTunes that I can watch on my Mini
iTunes Match syncs play counts and dates back to my computer although it is once per day.
Mini has stereo speakers and I don't need to use a hearing aid to listen to music through them.
App store will always be safe to download apps from

Bad on Nexus 7

Battery life. I can sometime get up to three hours of screen time before having to charge the battery. Brightness on very low give me the three hours.
Speaker volume sucks. Also after using it since February, speaker sounds like it may be on the way out on high setting

Bad on Mini

Bluetooth is limited. Can't send files from any devices, not even another Mini or iPhone or even a Mac computer.

There may be a few other minor things that I can't think of right now but I do use them both but I prefer the Mini. I've said it before on this site that had I bought the Mini first, I would not have bought the Nexus 7. I am still willing to give the next Nexus 7 a chance AFTER I read this forum to read reviews from people who bought it. I won't be one to buy it until then.

Same here.....I use my Bluetooth speakers on my N7, and it runs flawlessly!

Mhm, I saw you mentioning this a couple of times. This doesn't sound right at all, there must be an app that's killing you battery. I easily reach twice that time with screen brightness at roughly 20%.
