Nexus 7 Cast Screen Detecting Chromecasts

Is anyone else seeing this?

My Nexus 7 (2013) is detecting my Chromecasts on my network. It is all appearing under the cast screen option under display and also appearing under the quick shortcuts under the notifications. But when I try to connect to the Chromecast, I get a failed error alert.

I am stock with 4.2.2 and the newest version of Google Play Services 4.2.42 (1013934-036).

I am not getting the same thing on my Nexus 5.

Thanks!

You cannot currently cast your screen to Chromecast. You have to use an app with the feature built in.

I just checked and no I am not. Did you have your TV and Chromecast active at the time. I am on the latest update of kit kat.

Are you running a custom ROM? Because I do not have the cast screen option on the quick settings screen. I have to go to the display settings. Also, that is for Miracast, not Chromecast.

I am running stock, and on the latest version. My Chromecast is always on.

To my understanding as well, you cannot send your screen. I also thought it was just for Miracast, but for some reason my Chromecasts became an option.

Since I discovered this, I was able to reproduce this on my Nexus 5. I was using the app Dayframe. When I load the app, I get the Cast Screen option. I still get the failed message when I try to select one of my Chromecasts.

I wonder if this is in error or a possibility of things to come.

Can anyone else reproduce?

I just noticed the same thing on my 2013 N7 also running stock 4.4.2 using Google Play Service 4.2.43 and was curious what this was as well. I encounter the same issue when pressing it.

I got the same here:

- nexus 7 stock, full updated
- chromecast stock, full updated
- by dafault, NO "cast screen" on shortcuts
- install dayframe and send some things
- now "cast screen" show up on shortcut
- click to cast, select chromecast. chromecast return to home and nexus display error message "cast screen to blablabla fail"
- click to cast, select chromecast and again same error message
- click tocast, select settings, see chromecast in the list, click menu, Enable wireless display
- still screen cast fail

Ps: quick shortcuts swipe gets litle crazy, after new cast icon and extra line

I saw the same feature available this morning, failed to work and has now vanished, hence having a look round the net and finally signing up for this place!

Stock nexus 7 2nd gen fully updated and always on chromecast

UPDATE After playing around a lot over the last few days I have found that this reappears when I am casting an app but still using the nexus for other things.

I just updated to 4.4.3 a couple of days ago and this same thing as described in this thread started happening. When I click on the cast square in the notification shade it says failed to cast.
