Nexus 7 drains faster than it charges???

I just bought a Nexus 7 and I have had it for a week now. I have never seen a consumer electronic device before that can not stay on while plugged into the wall.

Even though I have it plugged in and charging the Nexus 7 shuts down eventually because the battery gets drained too much. Having it plugged into the wall isn't enough to keep it on?! This is absolutely ridiculous! Does this happen to other people with the Nexus 7 or is mine faulty? The only thing I was doing was browsing with wi-fi turned on.

(PS: I have only let this happen once since I had no clue that it would drain faster than I could charge it!)

Thanks for your replies in advance.

When it's charging and the battery level is still dropping, go into Settings > Battery. At the top it shows the current percentage, "charging," and the charging method: "AC," "USB," or "wireless." Which does your show? In any case, there are two likely causes:

1) The wall charger you're using isn't putting out enough current to charge the Nexus 7. You'll want one with an output rated at 2A, as opposed to 0.5A (500mA) or 1A.
2) Something is damaged in your charging cable or microUSB port, or the pins in the microUSB port have some sort of debris in them.

My N7 charges at about 0.8 amp using the supplied wall charger plugged into AC and showing AC in the settings menu. Since the N7 battery is rated at 4325 milliamp-hours a five hour life would theoretically require 0.865 amps ( corrected number. If the N7 is taking this from the battery then the battery would be draining in use even though connected to the charger. This seems to be the case. I use Battery Graph and Gauge Battery to follow my battery status.

Are you using the shorty cable that came with it? The short cable and a 2.1A adapter like the OEM one are the way to get the fastest charge. The longer the cable, the slower it gets.

Also try shutting down some radios if you're not using them (BT, GPS..), unnecessary background apps, and lowering the brightness and volume.

As previously stated, make sure the battery status says "Charging (AC)".

Nobleman01 - Charge Only

Using cable and charger that came with it that came with it. Attaching screen shot of last charge. The N7 shut down automatically at about 7% at 8:49P and shut everything off. When I plugged in the charger at the wall. I got the pulsing plug then the screen went black. I then waited and restarted the unit at 11:00P, loaded in Battery Graph and Gauge Battery, put in airplane mode and closed and opened the magnetic cover. The unit soon went into sleep mode. I unlocked it at about 1:30A to find it had finished charging. The calculated rate overall was 911 milliamps with the first part at 812 and the last part at 1005. The accuracy of these numbers is probably not great enough to claim a real difference between the two parts of the cycle. The average rate was a little higher than when I plugged in through a surge preventer. I charged in 4 hours and 25 minutes. If the rate was 1.8 amps it would have been 2 hours and 14 minutes.

Not yet. Everything else is working OK. I know it is supposed to be easy. May try another charger. It is charging fast enough for me. I posted my info to maybe show the others on this thread they were not alone.

Well, the Nexus seems to be behaving itself better lately.

I switched back to the original Asus cable that ships with the tablet and rebooted it instead of just shutting down apps in the background. This seems to help a lot.

Thanks for the advice. Who would have guessed that USB cables aren't all created equal?

I tried the cable from the jam box and it charged very slowly.

Hmmm, I know this sounds stupid but running Beautiful Widgets seems to drain the battery. When I added a 6x1 widget with a clock & weather the Nexus 7 didn't charge properly. The 'battery use' app doesn't report this though.

Could be an amazing coincidence and isn't the problem. The Beautiful Widgets live wallpaper seems fine but as soon as I add a widget things seem to go bad again. Will need to test further.

Hi. Im having a problem with the battery icon on the upper right hand area. The icon shows a "!" indicating a "0%" charge though a look at the battery settings indicate that its still charged.
Help?
