Nexus 7 Glass Seperation

Hello all...new guy here...just got my nexus 7 and really love it but like some I've got slight screen lift on the left side.Apart from that everything else is flawless.I did a lot of reading and actually fixed it myself. You must know a little about electronics to try but what I did after opening was to tighten all screws then I noticed what I believe to be the culprit of the left side lift.If you look about half way down on the left where the black sponge pad is just beside this is a plastic guard or piece next to the silver bezle. This is right where I get lift with the back on.I carefully took tweezers and snapped off the middle of the black guard and to my surprise the lift was gone.I think the middle of that piece was sticking up just enough to lightly press up the left side. This might not be the only cause of the lift but it seemed to fix my nexus.Hope everyone is enjoying there nexus 7 as much as me....cheers!...also mine was from the C70 batch...:)

^^^ This ^^^
I went a step further and took a razor blade and shaved the black plastic off flush with the silver bezel and the glass sits perfectly flush now...no lift at all. Amazing what a quick 5 minute fix can do.

If you go the razor route like I did, be very careful as a slip could damage something really important.

Makes you wonder why that was added in the first place...:)...that plastic piece seems to serve no real purpose

Can anyone post a photo of the black piece in question?

Thanks.

I would, but mine is no longer there. I thought about that just as I got done cutting it off...

But it's the only black plastic piece on the middle of the left side, and right next to the foam padding.

A picture sure would help if anyone has the chance. Even if you take a picture of where it was and just draw a red circle right around the area. I am still not clear if this piece is on on the back itself or on the main unit. If it is the main unit, do you have to unscrew any parts to access the tab to cut it or is it just easily accessible once the back is off?

Thanks.

It's is not on the back cover, it's on the actual unit itself. I left my N7 at the office or I would take a picture of where it was.

Once the back is off, it is accessible without taking anything else apart.

I decided to take my C70 apart and see if I could fix it. It was more of the creaking noise that was bothering me. Anyway, I was ready to break or cut off tabs that have been mentioned. After taking it apart though I tightened all the screws. I was surprised to see how loose all the screws were. I tightened them all down (gently) and put it back together. This has seemed to fix my problem.
So, before you start cutting or breaking things I would definitely suggest trying the screw tightening trick first.

as in any DIY fix...you do it at your own RISK...glad it worked for you...:)

I will be giving this a shot later. Has anyone had any issues with having to re tighten the screws after a while?

Tightened my screws, slightly fixed it, but there is still the damn creaking! I'm waiting on pics of this mystery piece people have removed to fix it.

Has anyone try loosening the screws? Saw a post about that in another forum...

Unfortunately the problem came back even after tightening the screws :/
I'm going to live with it until I see someone post pics or a video on how to fix.
Bummer.....

I think I might just live with it. I can deal with slight glass separation. I couldn't deal with a dead pixel or the other reported issues if I were to get a bad replacement device.

Someone mentioned tightening the screws and applying a thread adhesive. That seems to fix it more permanently, as the screws will eventually loosen again without it. It's just a thought, if you're willing to try another fix.

PS: Sorry if this thought was posted in this thread already, I didn't want to sit and read through 11 pages (I'm lazy like that), but it seems it may not have been.
