Nexus 7 not booting - how to do a factory reset?

To those of you who have done this procedure to factory reset your Nexus 7, has this resolved your random rebooting issues? Or is it still happening?

HELP!! ok so i factory rest the google nexus 7 and nothing... after it reboots it goes back to the stupid flashing X.. Can anyone tell me what i'm gonna have to do now?? Am i at the point of no return and do i need to send it back? I haven't even got to play on it yet.. :(

Welcome to Android Central! Can you give us a few more details? Is your Nexus 7 new or used? Rooted or unrooted? Was it like this fresh out of the box? When you say "flashing X," do you mean the multicolored X logo?

I have a similar problem with needing to do a factory reset but can't access any menu.

Managed to root my Nexus 7 and now trying to unroot it. Stuck on the black screen with the green start block upper right and the unlocked lock at the bottom. When I select "start" nothing happens, when I arrow down with the vol button to "restart bootloader" and select that is comes back to the screen with the android lying on his back and the start box again. When i select "Recovery mode" i get a tiny message in the upper left corner that says "booting failed". I have tried every combination of buttons available. Can't get to any menu screen at all. When I connect it to my computer it does not recognize the device and cannot find any drivers for it. Tried everything in this thread. Is my Nexus beyond repair?????? Help........please...:'(

I've had to reset mine 4 times... so I've gotten pretty good at it.. here is how I learned how to do it: Go to YouTube and search "Restore Nexus 7 to Stock " ... the person who posted is
creadev and its very helpful.....you can search there for other links but this is the one I used... and it helped me. I'd posted the link but it was showing it here and it took too long to load.

I've also called the store where I purchased it and asked for my unit to be replaced, because I'm tired of having to do this every 4 or so days... I noticed it does have something to do with faulting after a charge for sure. My boy friend has the same unit and has not had issues with his but is an advanced user and told me after I had to restore more than once that there was an update issue with the software and that when I get my new unit we were going to install the newest software before I go through the entire process of getting it up and running.

I hope this will help..

:-)

This is what I do when I mess with the os and something goes wrong -
1.download the Android sdk to your pc/laptop
2.go to Google and type in Google factory images and pick the image for your nexus 7
3.extract the file into android/sdk/platform tools
4.click on flash all.bat it will say waiting for device just hold the power button on your device and then turn it back on it will boot into fastboot mode and start to flash the new Image I hope this helps...
