Nexus 7 or... Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ?

Those choices don't seem to jive for me. Both are Android 7" tabs, but the Nexus 7 has far better specs and Jelly Bean.

Can't understand why someone would even have a reason to consider Sammy on this one.

I know there are reasons, but they aren't valid for me.

That's too expensive per year, & don't they put a limit on upload size?

It's cheaper, I think, to get something like the Kingston wi-drive.

Plus for me, well I've had a bad experience with "cloud" storage and I don't like that my docs, pics, videos etc are out of my control.

How secure is your storage anyway? There is always some sys admin or super-user support person out there that can access anything they want. I don't want sensitive business documents available to anyone I don't know.

And Hackers. If they can hack banks and business accounts and government agencies, then they can hack the cloud.

I won't be getting the Nexus 7,but only because I have a Samsung Galaxy 2. I got that when it came out and have never even considered returning it. I use the Galaxy 2 every day while on the road. The GPS chip set means I have a fully functional GPS unit with a 7 inch screen, I use Navfree USA as the navigation app, I have Docs to go for office work, EZ PDF Reader for marking up pdf files, add in Drop Box and Ever note and I can function as the road warrior I am. By the way my Android phone acts as a mobile hot spot so I can get anything I might need from the office. The only difference between the Galaxy 2 and the Nexus 7 would seem to be the lack of a sd/micro sd card in the Nexus. The 7 inch form factor means that the device fits on the dash without obstructing the view, so it functions as an almost perfect mobile device. My advice for anyone considering purchasing a tablet is to take a moment and figure out what you want to use it for. 10 inch for multimedia files like movies, and the 7 inch for use on the road in the car. Just my thoughts on the subject.

As one who has to watch pennies, nickles & dimes ... I just looked at the Samsung Galaxy Tab and I'd really love to have it especially cuz it's got a 10" screen!! Oh yeah baby!!! But it's also double the price of the N7 by pricing default the N7 will win here.

Well, I was all set to go and buy a Galaxy Tab 7 2 yesterday, then something told me to check here on AC to see what was coming out soon. I heard about the Nexus 7 but didn't really pay much attention to it. Well, I read all about it, watched a few youtube videos/reviews, etc.. and decided that the Nexus 7 was the better choice. I llike Samsung products and I haven't had any issues with them. I have and LOVE the Note. Had good luck with their TVs, Monitors, etc...

I had the Kindle Fire, and while I do like it, I got a little tired of only being able to DL apps that Amazon allowed, and not having access to the entire Google Play selection. BTW, I'm not a rooter. So, I gave the Kindle Fire to my niece. She LOVES it. I wwas perfectly fine with the 8GB of storage because my Tab is at home 100% of the time. I never take it out when I travel. So, 16GB should be good enough. POlus, I like the newer hardward and the fact that I know that I will be getting updates in a timely manner. Also, I figure I could simply get the Amazon Kindle App, Amazon Store App, etc... for use on the Nexus 7.

So I am thankful hat I found this thread amongst others and got up to date on the Nexus 7. I ordered the 16GB version and can't wait to get it. My neice wanted an iPod Touch for facebook, games, movies, etc... but she is much happier with the Kindle Fire.

The thing I would really love to try on the Galaxy Tab 2 is the IR Remote, because my Vizio remote is like 5 years old now and only about half the buttons work on it and for some reason the universal I bought also doesn't work very well.

Also I plan on getting the S3 within the coming months. So it would be really cool to use the Galaxy beam which is much faster than android beam. And of course expandable storage.

But I'm still going with the N7 simply because I feel like its probably better "All around". And also come'on you're getting updates, directly from google themselves. Having a future proofed tablet is really cool IMO.

I don't need the nexus 7.... Wanna know why? Cause I'M BATMAN!!!!!! :-)

seriously tho I can't wait

The IR blaster had me interested in the Tab 2 7.0. But Im not sure if it would work with our cable box. Peel doesn't have much info on their site regarding compatibility.

After trying to upgrade my Note through Kies and getting nowhere since the update launched, I'm kind of glad I opted for the Nexus 7 over the Tab 7 2. It really is annoying trying to update and not being able too, repeatly.

Also, Kies is pretty awful. Too bad there's no OTA update.

Big fan of the Tab2 7 in. As well as GS3 A perfect pair. The tab just updated perfectly to 4.0.4 via WiFi

I am hoping I made the right choice. I got the Tab 2 7.0 from my wife and kids for my birthday, then a week later the N7 was announced. I gave it heavy thought for 3 days and decided to return my tab and placed my order at the Play Store.

I really enjoyed the GT2 7, it was everything I was looking for in a tab (my first one). I know I didn't want a 10.1 due to the size / weight. I did play with the IR and it was a really nice interface, but I already have a harmony remote that does the exact same, just w/o the sweet touchscreen. 8)

I should have my N7 tomorrow or Monday so we will see. I felt that the N7 was more what I wanted. I do plan on some gaming and GTAIII and Machinarium ran only so-so on the GT. My Skyrocket runs GTAIII great and I fully expect the Tegra 3 to handle that better than the dual 1.0. I also was excited about the screen resolution bump.

I sold my Tab 2 7.0 for the N7. My thoughts are:

Tab 2 has the IR blaster. Cool, you may use it. It only worked for my TV, so I had to have the cable remote nearby anyway. Also, app was slow/crashy.
Tab 2 has back camera. Again, you may use it.
Tab 2 has a lower res screen. You definitely feel it. The UI seems cramped
Tab 2 is slower. Very noticably slower.
Tab 2 is more expensive. 8GB for $250 compared to the same for 16Gb N7
Tab 2 does not feel nearly as well built. It feels pretty fragile compared to the N7
Tab 2 has a uSD card. Good if you need more than 16Gb.

I really enjoyed the Tab 2 while I had it, it was great for it's time. However, it only has a few things on the N7, and the N7 has the higher screen res (which is what makes the Tab 2 feel so cramped imho).

I'm worried about the build quality of the N7 really. I've read a lot about the screen not being fully glued on to certain parts of the Nexus. I may have said that incorrectly, but if you read around the forums you'll find this issue.

Im kinda bothered by it too. The number of screen issues seems to be growing.

I thought about getting the tab 2 7.0 b4 the nexus 7 was announced. Only things the tab 2 7.0 has over the nexus 7 is rear cam and microsd slot(which is the dealbreaker for some).

the Samsung also has better build quality than the Asus-built Nexus 7.

I ended up buying and returning a Nexus 7 due to a loose screen. It's not "loose" as in
coming out of the frame, but it moved quite a bit whenever I pressed the upper left and
right corners of the screen.

I picked up a Galaxy Tab2 for the wife this morning. Overall construction is leaps and bounds over what I saw with the Nexus's I handled. Upsetting because I was so excited over the 7. I had to get her something because I sold her old tablet and the Nexus idea flopped and she was pissed at me. Im gonna wait it out and get something for me later.

Get a galaxy tab 7.7. Its much nicer. If price isn't a huge concern that is. You can get the verizon version for $550 now and I think the wifi tab is cheaper. It really is the best android tablet out. Just make sure to install CM9. Its like a new tablet now.
