Nexus 7: Recent 4.3 update and now screen won't rotate. Anybody have this?

I sold a friend my version one Nexus 7. He said it got the 4.3 update yesterday and ran upgrade today.

I was with him teaching him some stuff on the tablet earlier today and the tablet screen rotated just fine, but 4 hours later he's emailing me that the screen won't rotate. I told him that some apps don't rotate and to uncheck the "rotation unlocked" selection from the upper right swipe menu. Still won't rotate.

So, anybody heard if this is a bug for 4.3 update for the older Nexus 7. Dunno what else I can tell him.

I imagine resetting to factory setting would fix it but I wasn't planning another tech trip to him until next week. . .

Well now, he said he recharged the tablet and now it works

Would the sensors not work when the battery charge is low

???

Looks like you haven't had any responce yet. I have the same issue - When the phone isn't docked (and it depends on the docking state only as far as I can tell.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you talking about a Nexus 7 or a phone? Tablets should be able to auto-rotate the homescreen, but most phones won't--the auto-rotate will usually be intended for when apps are running. And there are apps that only allow one orientation.

This post was started in August 2013. Hopefully they are up to 4.2.2 by now and they no longer have the issue, I don't have a problem with my 2012 Nexus 7.

I realized that, sorry. If that reply has the same problem with 4.4.2 it is a whole new issue that needs a different attention. I can't help, I don't have that problem. I did think I had a problem with my homescreen rotation and that is why I tuned in , that issue has magically rectified itself, so I am good for now. Mine wouldn't rotate the home screen and I shook it and it worked, magic, shake three times and it works

Mine also does this. I have to reboot it several times to get it to work. If it boots and and isn't working no bumps will get it working. But once it boots up working it stays good until I restart it.

I have had this happen twice. Clearing the cache solved the issue
