Nexus 7 Restarting at random

Don't want to burst your bubble, but I sent my tablet in for repair since it was randomly rebooting about once a week. I was without the tablet for a month, it comes back to me and the Asus support technician I talk to online tells me that they ran their tests and there's nothing wrong the device. Now granted I've had it back for a week now and it hasn't rebooted... yet, but just to warn you Asus may very well be unable to replicate your issue. Not to discourage you or anything, just to let you know.

I've had the 2013-gen Nexus 7 now for maybe 4 months. it was OK before last night. but now I've this issue. my nexus got slow suddenly and it reboots randomly

exactly the same problem. it was OK till last night nut suddenly got slow and reboots randomly even when I'm not doing anything

Slow means something is running. Something changed. You need to figure out what that is. Did you install anything (apps, keboards, etc) or take an update? Have you downloaded anything?

Mine restarts running Google products. Just got a reboot after getting 30 seconds into using Play Music. Used to happen with Chrome a lot, but that's been better lately. Youtube will crash it. I haven't tried collecting logs, but it's annoying. Cleared cache a few weeks ago, only helped for a little while. For now, it's a minute of downtime, then back at it and it will be fine for a while.

Some people over on the XDA forums have suggested switching kernels or installing a different ROM to see if that changes anything. I switched my tablet's kernel to ElementalX and it still randomly rebooted, even when sleeping, which it had never done before on the stock kernel as far as I'm aware. So I ended up switching kernels again, going to BulletProof to see what results that nets me, but I'm no longer optimistic.

There is something seriously wrong with this tablet, and what REALLY frustrates me is that neither Asus or Google can offer any sort of solution or explanation. I regret buying this tablet BIG time.

My N7 started restarting at random after I had it for less than a week. It will do it several times a day, but days and weeks can go by without problems. It restarted 3 or 4 times today, while I was playing a recently downloaded game. I suppose that's a good clue that this might be the offending app. In other cases, is there a good way to tell whether the problem is the app I'm working with or something running in the background?

Welcome to Android Central! The easiest thing to do would be to uninstall that game, and then see if the random reboots persist. If not, then the game was the most likely culprit.

For what its worth ...
My N7 had random restarts (about once a week) when first purchased. More of an annoyance than a disaster. Seemed to disappear after last Chrome update. Haven't had a false restart in several months.

Hang in there -- things will improve.

Android 4.4.3, which is apparently coming out soon is intended to fix the random reboots, at least that's what the articles tell me. Although there could be multiple reasons why the tablet reboots it might not be so simple.

Its better than mine I got it for my birthday and if I leave it and don't use the touch screen for thirty seconds it crashes and and locks but when I press the button on the side and type in the pass code it re-crashes and I have to wait for the lock screen to appear of its own accord which can take a while but its very frustrating and I can't watch videos because it just crashes half way through any help at all?

Welcome to the forums!
any help at all?
Did it do this from the first day that you got it?
Was it a brand new unit?
Have you tried booting into Safe mode?

Has anyone found a good solution to this problem? My tablet got better for a while, then in the past week or so, it has started rebooting several times a day. Other that that one problem, my tablet runs fine.

My N7 have 2 problems, one is restarting at random, and another one is more annoying. Touchscreen lives his own life. Sometimes when i use it and click it randomly moves through pages or apps. Dunno why but i tried to restart it, hard etc. Nothing seems to help ;/

It sounds like this started soon after you got the device.
The usual solutions (in order of severity) are:
- boot into Recovery mode and clear the system cache
- perform a Factory Reset
- reload the firmware
If none of that helps then it's time to look into warranty repair.

Does this happen if it's just laying on a surface by itself, or while you're holding it? If the latter, is it in a case? If so you could try taking it out of the case and see what happens.
If the problem persists then it's time to look at a warranty repair.
