My friend, you are beyond hope. It's clear that you have not absorbed even one of the many well laid out, intelligent posts attempting to explain the situation to you. Further effort on my part would be a poor use of my time and energy. It's fairly clear that you'd rather not burden yourself with things as troublesome as rationality and logical thought. That is your choice.

I would, however, advise you to consider laying off further posts, as the hole you dig for yourself is becoming deeper all the time. Nobody likes a fanatical troll, and it seems to me that you are dangerously skirting becoming one. You've made your point: you think ALL Nexus 7s have build quality problems. Many of us disagree with you, but you have gotten your message out there. So, please, go away and don't come back with these same complaints. I'm sure there other forums in which you could gain more N7-hating converts..please go post your manifesto there.

Here is the official poor build quality test.

Take your thumb and press down(semi hard) on any of the 4 corners in the black area. The Screen will light up like an old LCD screen being touched.

Now do this with any other tablet. Including the ones that sell for $100. No other tablet will do this.

No this isnt something you will do on a daily basis... if ever.

It just shows that there is less glass, poor design, ability to lift, creak, easily broken screens, and all of the other crap people have been complaining about. Maybe even why the touch screen dies.

If anyone is an Apple employee... its the people that are so hard core saying its perfect. Sell more of a product to have people complain about.

Yep but that's just one issue. Screen flickering, light bleed, horizontal line pop up, raised screen, touchscreen issues have all been reported. Of course you have your devout fan boys here dismissing the issues but its true and documented.

I'm happy people are happy with it, its great for 250, but its a cheap build and wont please tech connoisseurs that want top notch build quality all around. This is like the Honda of tablets. Great for the money but not Mercedes or BMW quality.

Yes, a few reviewers noted they had minor screen separation issues, and, yes, a few reviewers got stuck with units that had ghosting problems and/or the infamous "grayish screen" some have experienced. However, there have literally been a few that have had these problems with their devices..but the other dozens and dozens, if not hundreds, of professional reviewers have had nothing but praise for the Nexus 7. And certainly the screen's resolution and color have received acclaim from the vast majority.

The point here is not that some devices have problems (they indeed do), but rather that most units are problem-free. You'd think from these forums that 90% of N7s have one issue or another..this is most certainly not the case. I'd wager that the number of "perfect" tablets FAR outweigh those with defects. That said, the problematic ones get way more press than those that are doing great..such is human nature.

As a side note, I extensively compared my N7's screen to that of the iPad 2 and 3 recently, and I have to say that the N7's display stood up very well to the other two. It's nearly identical in color vibrancy and accuracy to the iPad 2, though the Nexus 7's resolution and pixel density are noticeably superior. The iPad 3's screen is definitely nicer, but, frankly, not so much as to justify the $400 higher price tag it demands..not even close. I was actually pretty surprised how close the N7 came to matching it, especially when you stop to remember it is only a $200 unit. The whole thing left me feeling extremely pleased with my tablet's display..much more so than I expected to be.


My guess is that my experience is much more representative of the norm than that of the unfortunate few (statistically speaking) that are having problems. I don't say that in an attempt to minimize their justifiable frustrations, but rather to encourage people to remember that this tablet will prove itself to be an AWESOME buy far more times than not. I've got no stake in selling this to anyone..but I'm just very pleased that I decided to pick an N7 up. If only the happy people spoke as loudly as the unhappy ones.

I still have every intention of purchasing the nexus 7 simply because I love the design of the tablet, software, size and price

But if alternatives to come out within a few months I will have to strongly consider them because of such a large number of people complaining about the screen lift issue

But I do sure hope when /if I purchase it, I get a good copy

I stopped by a local Staples yesterday to get some hands-on with a Nexus 7, to decide if I REALLY wanted to get one. Turns out the display model itself has the left-side screen lift issue.

I pushed down the left-side and it seemed to have stuck down properly/evenly for a bit, but then I noticed it had re-lifted before I set the unit down.

This doesn't bode well, does it?

So anyone who does not have a problem with their tablet is a fanboy? Well that's certainly a new definition to me.
By the way, you're digging your hole deeper and deeper each day. At first, you kept saying that it's a great tablet and you love it. Now that people are continuing to disagree with you, you're changing your tune, and sayings it's cheap and won't please people who are tech connoisseurs. I'm now more convinced than ever that you have been exaggerating things all along. And by the way, your comment that it would not please people who are passionate about tech completely ignores the fact that people who are paid to review tech items have been overwhelmingly positive with their reviews. Who then are these connoisseurs about whom you speak? You and a handful of other complainers here? Can you show me even five reviews in the tech press that are negative about the nexus ?

Being a display model has nothing to do with why the device has screen lift. I mean, seriously, you think someone playing with the device in store ripped the perfectly attached screen up from the side? Gimme a break.

What's a lot more likely is that the store got their display device in the first shipment and it wasn't constructed well. Anyone out there who thinks that the first round of these devices was perfect is living in denial. There were a lot of issues with that run.

But, rumor has it that the latest round is fairly issue free. And I've noticed stock is running really low in my area - none of the Staples stores have any in, Office Depot hasn't gotten new shipments all week, and the GameStops I've checked don't have any either, and don't expect to get stock any time soon. I'm hoping *fingers crossed* that this means that there's been a production slow down to fix issues, and we'll see a fresh batch soon, and I'll be able to pick up an issue-free device in the next week or two.

In this case no, but it happens. When you see a display model, and it's beat up like any kind of display model, does that influence your decision on buying the product? You assume it's like that because it's a display and 4 year olds have had their sticky hands all over it.

Yea and no. I have a C60 model, as do a lot of others on this forum, and it's perfect like others. Some have C70 models with defects. Denial? I don't get it. No one is denying that there are issues. Have you looked around this forum? There are more posts with people having issues than anything else. Buy that's the nature of the beast. People don't jump onto forums just to post they aren't having issues.

Reading through this thread, I'm getting a little worried, heh. But so far, it's been a joy. This was a test unit for my family - we may buy them as educational devices for the kids for Christmas - much cheaper than the iPad and makes more sense to me than a Gameboy!

I wanted to love the Nexus 7. I really did. I've been a devout Android fan boy since the OG Droid came to Verizon. I waited in line outside VZW on gNex launch day. I preordered the Nexus 7 just days after it's announcement without a second thought.

But after 3 RMAs and 4 devices, I gave up on Google's latest flagship.

Sure, the OS is fast and slick and it performs handsomely on the 7 courtesy of NVidea's Tegra 3. But I was a tech fan LONG before I was an Android fan, and the shoddy build quality of the Nexus 7 is inexcusable. Four devices, 3 consistent quality problems: screen lift, dead pixels and ghosting. If Google had managed to send me a tablet that didn't exhibit at least 2 of these issues, I almost certainly would not be writing this post from my iPad. Say what you will about Apple and iOS (it is NOT my favorite), they know how to make a quality product.

As best I can tell, the fault lies primarily with Asus. Don't believe me? Do a search for "Asus quality control" or something similar. You'll find forums full of dissatisfied Transformer and Zenbook owners. Ever notice how just about every Asus product review always contains at least a few sentences singing the praises of that low LOW price point? That's the reviewer's disclaimer --it usually follows the paragraph about the otherwise inexcusable hardware problems (like the excessive light bleed on the otherwise gorgeous --and class-leading-- 1080P panel in the Zenbook Prime).

I should probably only be upset with Google insofar as they elected to partner with Asus on this device. I suppose I can only hope that they will work with other hardware manufacturers in the future. Samsung makes great hardware. So does Lenovo.

Sorry you've been so unfortunate. Mine and the ones I've bought for others have been perfect. BTW, Lenovo and Samsung have had plenty of people with faulty hardware too.
