Nexus brand

But its funny that most people think galaxy is android.

Just like people who think Ubuntu is Linux. ;)

We can't expect everyone to be as savvy as most people on android forums. We are enthusiasts, they are average people. Don't expect Joe Six Pack to educate himself about phone operating systems.

When I tell people I haven't signed a phones contract in years and I buy unlocked phones most have zero idea what I'm talking about. More people have heard of the N5 since its in stores opposed to the other nexus phones

When I get asked what kind of tablet I have and tell people it's a Nexus 10, the most common question I get is wow, I've never heard of that when did it come out? When I tell them I bought it in October of 2012, they are amazed. Another thing people often say is that doesn't look like Android that I'm used to. And I tell them this is pure Android, no skin or modifications. Most of the time I get a question look back saying what do you mean skin or modifications?

Nexus rarely rings a bell to anyone, so I just refer to it as Google Phone.

It's a good thing that people don't known about the Nexus. It's not a massive marketing jerk-off like Galaxy phones are and it's a pleasure for me to be able to enjoy a high-end pure-android phone without any bloatware at a ridiculously low price knowing people are forking their money for Galaxy phones and iPhones.
But, if more people got the Nexus devices, it might help keep/lower the cost and make accessories for it more common...

Most people I know who are big techies know that the Nexus lines exist, but not much more than that. Heck, I only know because I happend on a GNex at a store and did some research on it.

I know... With all the rumors of the Nexus line going away, I wasn't exactly pleased... But the Google big-wigs seemed pissed at the idea and finally commented on it.

Can't wait to see what the next phone will bring... Something to look forward to I guess. Though, I love my 5 so much, I'll be quite conflicted.

I was very skeptical that the Nexus line was going to be discontinued. It is Google's Development phone. In fact, with what they are doing with Android L, I think the Nexus line is going to be even more important. I'm guessing releasing the Developer Preview will be a success and Google will need Nexus devices in the future so that developers can text on the phones as new Development versions of Android are released.

I suspect that the Silver devices will take the place of the GPE devices.

I wonder if they are going to splash a new Nexus phone AND tablet when they release Android in the fall...

I have only seen two Nexus 4 and one Nexus 5 outside of mine. Most people have never heard of Nexus and most people don't even know Google sells any phones or tablets.

I'm seeing more and more as people learn where to purchase these phones. For the most part, I believe consumers know to go to the carrier store to buy their phones. So, outside of T-Mobile, you won't find the Nexus line. Also, I think that people have an issue with buying a device that they are going to use all day every day without being able to play around with it first. I think this is where the Silver line is going to come into play. A stock Android device that will be sold in carrier stores so people can have that near stock experience.

Sent from my iPad Air. Simply better than the rest.

I suspect that is changing.... I remember a year or two back, people remarked at how few times the presenters at I/O said "Android"..... and wondered if they were de-emphasizing the Android brand and pushing more "Google".

My, how things change... .at this year's conf... Android was ALLLLLL over the place. You couldn't shake a smartwatch without seeing the Android logo or hear a presenter say the word. We see reports that Android will not allow companies to screw around with their new platforms (I'm looking at your Samsung).... What we hear of Android Silver is basically a high-end brand of phones with Nexus-like software... then, music to our ears, someone at Google saying, out loud, that the Nexus line isn't going anywhere. Google is looking to reassert themselves and take their mobile OS back a little.

With the Nexus 5, I've seen it described as the best smartphone no one knew about.... Google didn't really push it... we SEE it everywhere (in all those screenshot mock ups, etc) but they don't give it the full court press that we see when Samsung releases a new Galaxy S.... we don't even get a smug, pretentious ad with Gary Oldman in it. I think we'll see a big change with the upcoming phone.

I think the Nexus 6, or whatever they call it, will be a BIG event... Google will roll out a new Nexus phone AND tablet, a new OS... and I bet you that they also officially launch the Silver line, with the Nexus as kind of it's torch bearer. By this time next year, when you tell someone you have a Nexus, you won't get an odd look.... watch.

Mind if I use your line, that's the best description I've seen for the Nexus 5. I show people mine and it's like "WTH is a Nexus?!?".... :D

Feel free.... unlike Apple, I won't try to lay claim to someone else's work. ;)
