Nexus, ICS & Google Search Bar

If you can remove the search widget from the home screens, how will you implement searches from the home screen?

Mad if it's there...mad if it's gone. Just kidding (sort of). Anyway, if you can and do decide to delete it from the home page/pages, you can always add the Voice Search icon on any/all of your home pages (takes up way less space) or even put it in the scrolling dock at the bottom, assuming the dock does scroll.

Actually, I think more like "mad that they don't have a dedicated search button that is persistent. Kind of like they do now, as always have had ..." , you know? I think that is a valid concern. It is one of many I have about these virtual buttons ..

I'll miss it as well...I like my dedicated search button. But the fact is, it's gone. So we either have to accept that, and enjoy our newer, faster, better devices, or decide that it's so terrible that we keep our older phones. It's a choice we get to make. I'm moving on to different, but better things.

I've never understood the point of the search widget anyway. The search widget looks like a text entry field, but it isn't: when you tap on it, it just opens the search app and takes over the whole screen. You can accomplish the same thing with a shortcut, which takes up a lot less space.

I'm reserving judgment on the removal of the search key. I use it a lot, but the ICS UI was designed by smart people. I assume they thought this stuff through. But it will be an adjustment.

Smart people can make stupid mistakes too :-)

I use the search button a lot also and unless they add buttons to that area dynamically they are not lacking space. If it were removed there would be space for 5 x 4 icons and that is one of the major reasons I use Launcher Pro right now.

I have an app tried to long press search button and that means I can no longer trigger that app from anywhere, maybe they will allow us to define our own extra buttons, in that case I'll just define my own...
