Nexus player audio

Does the nexus player use your TV audio or sound system? I have a 7.1 surround sound system that all my audio comes thru. Chromecast uses your TV audio unless u buy additional cable that just won't work for me wondering if nexus player is same?

It uses hdmi. I have my Nexus player plugged into my reciever and get 5.1 sound.

I'm having the same issue regarding passing sound via my home theater sound system. I managed to get audio to pass through on my Samsung TV to my Sony home theater sound system via an aux cable... but that wouldn't work for my living room setup downstairs.

Look into getting an HDMI audio extractor. That should get you passing audio. But, I've also read that the Android TV OS doesn't support multichannel audio. But, XBMC-Kodi does.
