SOLVED ENTER KEY
It does exist in ICS.
Hold the shift key (up arrow on left) or press once to view enter key on smiley button.
I was having this same problem. ICS 4.1.2 Galaxy Nexus stock keyboard messaging app.

Thanks to all you guys. The invisible enter button was frustrating me a lot, since I like my formatting to be correct. Your posts of 2012 have helped me in 2014.

This older thread was helpful to me, too, here in Jan 2014. I needed the enter button to craft better sentence structure in text(s). Especially if you want to text a cooking recipe like a list of ingredients with corresponding measurements.

I joined this forum to say thanks to that guy! Brilliant!

I normally use swiftKey, but sometimes I want raw keyboard, no prediction or autocorrect, and then I switch to the stock one which is configured like so.
