Nexus S Has Terrible 4G Radio, Terrible Wifi Radio, and Wifi Tethering Crashes Data

This was just posted on Sprint Comm Forums :D

"A little more hope, someone just mentioned this to me,

" expect 2.3.5 in a few weeks with fixes,

someone already saw a new 2.3.5 head in AOSP

* [new tag] upstream/2.3.5 -> upstream/2.3.5"

FWIW I think that's a good sign."

Who mentioned this?

2.3.5 would come anyways. nobody knows if it will fix the signal issues as it's still being looked into. the sprint rep i saw post yesterday made it sound like sprint was claiming the bad signal is due to aosp that shows less bars. to me it's just an excuse to not fix it. it's not less bars, it's no bars and crappy service. it's either a radio issue or a hardware issue.

as i said before i will give it a week before i return my device. someone needs to acknowledge they are working on a fix or a recall.

btw does anybody know a firm release date for the evo3d? that would be the only device id trade in for at this point.

showing less bars is BS... cause my apps keep screaming "network connectivity issues."

If the EVO 3d shows up before this thing gets a connectivity fix... I'm jumping to the EVO 3d. My wife's EVO 4G is solid with it's signal. I'll deal with it up to end of day 28... but after that. I'm switching to the EVO 3D of 4G which ever is available if the fix doesn't roll out...

(I do recall the EVO 4G having the same issues... the guy that sits beside me had a launch day EVO 4G and I remember him getting all hot and pissy about the reception... now his reception is like a rock.

EDIT: Speed test today on my couch... 1 bar - 3G
Ping: 809ms

Immediately running another test 1 bar - 3G

Immediately another test 1 bar 3G
Ping 140ms

Upload: 340kbps

And one more for an even number of tests remember these are back to back 1 Bar 3G
Ping 161ms

Upload: 372kbps...
Maybe when my wife gets home I'll get some speed tests from her EVO 4G that gets full bars at the same location and compare but she hasn't had a single drop out and I've been cussin' about it.

I came from a launch day EVO and experienced the same issues but were rectified with software updates. Careful assuming though that that EVO 3D won't have these issues. Not saying it will or won't but seems every smartphone that is released has certain issues when launched (look at the thunderbolt reboot issue).

Yeah, I'm being patient (30days worth of patient...) I'm just adding to the number of people experiencing the same issues. Being silent never gets anything done.

the 3d won't be out in time for any of us to exchange for it. im sure this issue will be fixed via OTA by june that's unless it's a hardware issue, then a recall will have to happen. i do know the sprint thread has been closed, im ticked about that!

You think the 3D wot have issues when its released? LOL The Nexus fix will probably be out by the time the 3D is anyways. I had the Evo 4G morning it went on sale and it had the exact same issues. It launched June 4th and the patch was not released until June 28th and then guess what? That fix bricked about 60% of the Evos! Then Sprint had to tell everyone not to download it and put another one out like a week later. Those issues plus the screens falling off, light leak and the grounding issues that needed to be fixed with a separate fix....the Evo was a disaster the first 3 months it was out. The Nexus problems are nothing in comparison. Good luck with that 3D haha

First time I got to use my wimax. In queens I lost signal and disconnected a few times. Outside the entire time. Manahattan held connection but was very low in some spots.

Wasn't like that with my epic.

All I know is. With 4g on and connected I can drive all around Atlanta streaming Netflix and it will switch 4g towers and from 3g to 4g and back without a hiccup in my movie. Thats more than my evo would do (it would never reconnect without a manual scan and took several minutes to switch networks ) and that friends is all that matters to me.

Sprint just replied to me after my email to Dan Hesse.

Positives: The rep said that both and Sprint are aware of the issues, but they do not have a time frame for a fix.

Negatives:

1. The rep did try to use some weasel words by saying that they understand that people have been having issues, but it isn't a full blown "recognized" issue yet.

2. Of course, I got the standard, you have a 30 day return policy, and I replied that I didn't want to waste my upgrade on an older phone (EVO 4G, Epic etc). The rep responded that if you have an older Sprint phone, you can have that reactivated for the time being until the issues are resolved or until a newer Sprint phone that you would want becomes available.

For all of my Pre's faults, it could hold a signal with the best of them.

I would rather have the signal issues to the reboot and crash issues the EVO 3D is still having. It did at CTIA, and was confirmed still doing it a few nights ago at another demo show. No thanks.. I like my Nexus S.

EVO 3D also has poor battery life like VZW's Thunderbolt....no idea when that will be fixed either...not sure I want to go to a phone that barely gets 3 hours when my NS4G gets 10+ hours. No signal issues on my end either.

And you're getting this information from....where exactly? Not only does the Thunderbolt get more than "barely 3" hours but you have no source for the Evo 3D having poor life. Nobody does... the phone hasn't been released yet. At least try to not make up stuff if you're going to blindly trash a phone.

i got my information from a friend who is on the HTC project team for that phone. They have a short circuit somewhere in the circuit board which is causing the battery to drain way too fast, and they haven't figured out where the short is yet.

In addition, there are LOTS of threads in the Thunderbolt forum about people having problems with battery life, losing 20-40% power when rebooting, etc. It's not just me, it is in the forums here and on phandroid and elsewhere. VZW has problems keeping batteries in stock for the Thunderbolt because of the high power drain. The manager (also a neighbor and friend) of the VZW store down the street from me says they have more power issues with it than Sprint has with NS4G signals issues (yesterday he told me has a 8% return rate for battery power reasons alone.

Did your friend also tell you that they were going to release it with that issue?

I didn't say that there weren't issues with the Thunderbolt battery life, but 3 hours is exaggerating a little bit.

when are we gonna hear firm confirmation that a fix is in the works?

im worried today that the evo3d locked bootloader will outshine our radio issues.

Its crashing issues that is reported to still be having won't. I witnessed it first hand at CTIA and member slag posted photos from an event last week, and mentioned it still had those issues. Personally people are overeacting and expecting the sky to fall over this. They know about it, be patient or get a different phone. The Evo 3D will release with issues, the original Evo was plagued with them for months after release. So I don't expect any different from this, all devices have hiccups in the beginning. We rarely ever see a press release or official confirmation on fixes for any devices. They just aknowledge it, and work on a fix. Stop flooding this forum with this... I see similar things at XDA.
