It's a little early to ask, even though T-Mobile is not offering insurance with this phone, will Asurion still cover it if you have insurance with them? Any ideas?

This was asked before and so far nobody seems to have a relaible answer. T-Mobile doesnt even know. I am going to give it a week or 2.
I've spoken to t-mobile. They said no because since they dont carry it in store it'll be hard for them to replace.
I've asked best buy nexus s hotline, they said yes it would be covered under the t-mobile insurance.
I've asked Best Buy Mobile representative, he said no it is not covered under t-mobile insurance but it can be covered under best buy insurance.
So obviously I didnt get a clear answer. This is the only thing keeping me from buying one. I guess i should contact Asurion next since they are the insurance company, and considering the fact they are a 3rd party company, i dont see why it can't be covered. Hell they even cover iPhones and those dont have insurance available from AT&T. So we'll see.

Well, when the Nexus One came out they made an announcement on their website saying they would be covering it. But T-Mobile never carried it in store anywhere. So i dont think that not being carried by t-mobile stores should mean that we don't get covered. However, Last year when i contacted asurion they said they basically cover whatever device you used last if it was lost, I read around they cover devices up to $1,000 for the 120 deductible. Lets hope they make an announcement soon.
When I called T-Mobile today to activate the Android Data plan on my account (switched from a BB) I asked if I can keep my current insurance to cover the Nexus S. The CSR said that was a very good question. That she just finished training on the Nexus S, but the insurance topic was not covered. She asked me to hold while she asked her supervisor. After a brief hold she returned and informed me that the Nexus S will be fully covered from theft, loss, damage, hardware malfunctions, etc. The same coverage my previous phone had.

You might check w/ your homeowners / renters insurance for coverage on accidental damage. I am able to insure electronics on my homeowners plan for accidental damage (not mfg defects). So if someone throws a wii remote through the tv, they will cover it.. My TV costs me $14/year w/ zero deductible.
BB offers a total coverage package for 10 bucks a month. It covers everything even water damage. Only thing it dosent cover is theft or lost phone. Worth every penny considering there is ZERO deductable.
I went with the BB coverage too, bit pricey IMO, but considering how much I paid for the phone...
Yup same with me. I called T-Mobile to activate my phone text messaging service and I asked about the insurance. The Rep said that the Nexus One was covered so the Nexus S should be too. He then got back on the phone and said you're all set your Nexus S is now covered under the insrance.
Well in the box it comes with a booklet that is titled T-Mobile insurance. I would recommend getting the Black Tie from bestbuy.
Doesn't the Best Buy FAQ say that Best Buy will hold the Nexus S FIRST, does this mean it will be available from T-Mobile directly, in the future? If so, you can get the insurance from T-Mobile... at least in the near future.

I called the insurance company asurion and said fhey would cover it as long as we keep receipt and make a copy of the back of ur phone or take a pic of the back of your device without the battery and battery cover so that the imei can show on the image..n bout the receipt I scanned it on my computer as you all can tell that receipts fade ! I'm just saying! But asuriob states that phone is covered..so lucky me I added insurance!
SquareTrade also sells insurance for the Nexus S. I believe it's $99 for 2 years with a $50 deductible. May go that route myself.

I own a Nexus S- at the time I transferred my plan, I asked T-Mobile if my current Asurion plan would cover the Nexus S and was told yes. I had to put a claim in today and was told by Asurion that they do not have the Nexus S and could only offer me a Samsung Vibrant as a replacement. I contacted multiple people at T-Mobile and got nowhere, except to get a confirmation that they could not replace the Nexus S. For the $130 deductible, the Vibrant does not really measure up as a replacement phone if you ask me. Now I sorely wish I had purchased the BB protection, but at the time, the cost was higher and appeared to cover less than what T-mobile told me.
TL;DR- Asurion DOES NOT replace the Nexus S with the same phone- they instead offer a lesser model Samsung as a replacement.

When I called t-mobile support to suspend the phone service, the rep tells me I really should get loss and theft insurance when I replace the phone. Sounded like a good idea. After I bought the phone, Best Buy sales guy tells me I need to go to t-mobile to get the right sim card and that I can buy the protection from them. I go to the t-mobile store, buy the sim card, buy the insurance ($5.99/month), get the receipt stamped showing the t-mobile store number where I purchased the protection, get a brochure describing the insurance for this phone, and leave the t-mobile store thinking I'm covered.
A few days later my wife calls t-mobile customer support with some questions about the insurance and they tell her that phone cannot be insured.
She reads them the information on the stamped receipt and tells them about the brochure we received. They say "no way" and cancel the $5.99 charge. She asks them what they would have done if 9 months from now the phone was somehow lost. T-mobile customer support says they would have given us back the money we had already paid for the insurnace (9 X $5.99 = $53.91). The thing is, if I never needed the insurance they would have just kept all the $5.99 each month and never said anything.
I didn't find out about this SCAM by actually needing the insurance, but it sure seems like it's dishonest. This might warrant a call to the Attorney General's Office.

Only Best Buys insurance covers the Nexus S. No matter what anyone tells you at T-Mobile. T-Mobile doesn't carry the Nexus S, Best Buy does. That's why its best to pay the $9.99 a month for the BB insurance. Also, they cover everything for no deductible. Trust me, do yourself a favor and when you buy the Nexus S from BB buy the insurance as well.
