NFC Tags

Just leave GPS on....only time it uses battery is when there is an active app drawing data from GPS. No need to toggle

I see. I figured that since that was the way Google Wallet had to be used. Does the phone make that Beep sound when you know youve successfully swiped it across a tag? Or any kind of confirmation?

Yes, it will beep to let you know it successfully swiped.

The NFC task app has options to enable and disable beep and vibrate, so you can enable both, one, or neither. It will show in the notification bar also. I also have the widget on one of the screens that will show the last profile set by the NFC tag.

I ordered the starter kit from Tagstand and they arrived today. I also purchased NFC Task launcher from the market. I am trying to understand the tabs before I use the launcher app. A few questions before I get started.

The starter kit contains several kinds of tags some small some larger some square some rectangle some circles. Am I correct to assume that the larger tags will store more data than the smaller ones and that is the difference?

Some are named outside - I guess these are for use in the outdoor elements?

And last, and I know this sounds dumb, but these are stickers so this means they have an adhesive backing and can be stuck onto objects or do I have to secure them another way?

Cant toggle the GPS? Well what the crap man lol. Either way, thanks for your input and your profile set up. It gives me a good idea for when I get them, what to use them for. Its a shame because its nothing super major that I can really do with them. Like the Google Wallet feature is really cool because the look on the clerks face is awesome after I flash the Gnex. Possibly in the future, there will be a better use for the NFC feature.

You can toggle GPS by downloading the app "Tasker" and the app "Secure Settings" which works as a plugin for tasker. Then create a GPS task and have nfc task launch it. (Must be rooted)

Now I just need to figure out how to automatically connect a specific Bluetooth device.

I got some from Tagstand, the Logo Type-2 Ultra light C. I've got some great uses for them, but I frequently experience issues with them being read. It often takes multiple attempts for it to register and perform the correct action. For example, I have one next to my back door that turns off wifi and enables vibrate mode. More often than not I stand there for like ten seconds trying to get it to go, and by the time it does, I could I have just toggled the settings myself and been on my way.

Is this common? Or are these tags just weak? When I ordered them I imagined just tapping my phone to a tag and having it go no problem. But that is rarely the case. Are there tags that are more reliable or stronger? I want the tags to be convenient. But it defeats the purpose if I'm spending more time trying to get the tap recognized than it would take to toggle the settings myself.

Rabble rabble rabble.

Seriously we need to do a group buy on these. Buy in bulk and send them with stamps.

Sorry for the noob question, but how do I access the NFC Service app to change the settings to get a beep? I see the NFC Service listed as an app in the Settings, but I can't find an icon or widget anywhere.

i got the starter kit from tagstand to and most tags kind of suck and are very touchy. Like you said, i can sometimes stand there for 10 seconds tapping before anything happens.

The largest ones seem to work very well though, those i can actually hover above and they work. The only issue with the large ones is that they are the size of Honda civics.

There was a rep from tagstand who responded regarding the reading of certain tags over at Androidforums.

Apparently, there are problems reading the smaller sized tags.

Personally, I have been using the tagstand - Mifare Classic Sticker - Square (35mm x 35mm) and they usually work the first time without a problem.

I've also been adding to my tasker setups for night mode to not only turn off the notification light at night but to also turn off screen auto-rotate (so I can read webpages at night in portrait without it trying to flip) and to turn on auto-brightness at night and switch to half brightness during the day.

Chococar, you need to purchase the NFC Task Launcher app from the market.

Random question, can you use the NFC tags to change your wallpaper too? And how many commands does 144 bytes of information allow?

On the description for the Mifare classic squares, it says they're compatible with the nexus s but may not be with other future models. Has anyone confirmed functionality with the GNex? Just wanted to make sure before I purchased some of them :) NFC sounds pretty sick!

One more thing, there is a NFC launcher and NFC task launcher in the android market, first one is free and the task launcher is paid. Which one is everyone talking about?

They Mifare classic squares works fine for me and my fiancee's galaxy nexus. They usually read fine the first time. However, I noticed that they changed the starter pack on tagstand to the mifare rectangular, which looks like its the size of a credit card so maybe that one reads the best? It might be worthwhile to ask tagstand but personally, the classic squares work well for me.

There are two versions of NFC task launcher. The free one doesn't allow you to write to tags, it only allows the phone to execute tags. The paid version allows you to write to tags.

For instance, if you wrote a tag with your wifi password, a visitor to your house can download the free version of NFC task launcher and use that to access your wifi network without having to pay for the full app.

what does it mean that the tags are read-only? Does it mean I can program it once and only once?
