I had an earlier post about an unknown status icon and it turned out to be NFC. I have never had it on but it was on somehow. I turned it off, went back to the post and let everyone know I had found it.

Well, just noticed the icon back. It's been about 6 hours since I turned it off. I went to settings and it was on again.

What is causing this?

Are you using Samsung Pay? I think I've seen mine come on when I use it. Haven't really checked though as it doesn't seem to impact my battery life to where it's problematic for me.

I am using Samsung pay. That may be it. But I didn't think it used true NFC. Maybe I was wrong. But it doesn't turn back off.

So should just leave it on?

The ONLY way to prevent NFC from turning itself on is to install the app Package Disabler Pro and disable NFC. Works like a charm. Same goes for the Facebook crap

Yes, Samsung Pay uses MST technology not NFC, that is why you can use it on any swipe terminal.

Thanks. I knew it used mst but wasn't sure if it used NFC on some terminals. I disabled it via package disabler so we will see if works on all.

Thanks again.

Does Samsung Pay need NFC then? Thought it could use MST if NFC not available. Or all NFC terminals also MST, thus for Samsung Pay one only ever has to use MST?

Oh no worries.....NFC will NOT turn back on if you disabled it with the Package Disabler Pro app

I just double checked, but my understanding is that Samsung Pay uses both NFC and MST technology.
