Nightly Charging will break your Gear S (see Pictures)

I have had my S since day one and it's been babied. Noticed that my S was only 40% charged the other morning and when trying to attach the charger was not able to lock it in. Upon inspection I found that the recessed hole that the charge locks into cracked -- looks to be due to fatigue over time... I can imagine this happening to any S after prolonged use and charging. It's a weak point/ weak design and overall terrible charging/docking as we all know. Would be curious to those that have had their S since day one to inspect that area and look for signs of fatigue. The click in and click out of the charger day after day I'm not surprised that this occurred and would expect it to be wide spread over time.

Sure - I'm sporting my new replacement, but this will happen again given enough 'use'. Perhaps S can copy the iwatch's charging method so we can see it in the Gear Z.

I don't have any wear on mine and I have had it since they came out in the US. My wife (who recently ran into the charger issue) doesn't see any damange on hers either.

Frankly that looks more like a one time trauma than stress over time.

A lot ppl had broken charging dock. You are the only one has a broken watch. Sounds like you are the one likely to see it break again if you don't pay attention to how you dock the chargers, not everyone. Mine was bought at launch day at AT&T and don't have this problem or broken charging dock either. And I do charge every night.

I have 3 charging docks, work, home, and car. I am using a carbon fiber cover on the Gear S. Clips in a little rough if I don't pay attention, when I do pay attention it works flawless. I have not had a issue with any charge. It needs a wireless option. mho Would be nice to have Qi technology in the carbon fiber cover. Just a thought.

I am on my third one. Now I bought a spare so that when one breaks I return it back to Samsung for exchange. The new one cost me about $20 so that I can have a backup. The other option is that when it breaks wrap a rubber band around it or a zip tie around it so that the charger makes contact with the watch.

Samsung needs to redesign the charger set up to work like LG's.

Love my Gear S but once the LG Urbane LTE hit the US I'll likely be purchasing one and selling my Gear S for cheap. Web OS...we'll see how I like it, but the watch is one of the best looking ones around IMO.

Day 1, 0 issues. I never snap both clasps at the same time. Bottom side placement first and snap top in.

I thought so as well, but then found out that the SIM is locked into the watch and not user accessible. I refuse to have my devices locked into any one network, so I'll stay with my Gear S for a while longer....

I've had my Gear s since November (or late October?) and just checked. My Gear S itself does not show any sign of wear... The charger is just a matter of time at this point.

Too bad, they, the GSM standardization body, shoot down Apple's proposal of a soft SIM that can be programmed to work with any network without the need for a physical SIM. It could come in handy in this case:)

In this case, yes, but I also like keeping all my sims separate and swapping them out at will... On the plane before take-off, etc. I imagine having to request a soft swap would add a cost from the carriers, plus you'd need to get in touch with them while in one country, before arriving in the next.

Sounds like too much of a bother vs. a 2 second physical swap. Depends on how you use your sim cards, I guess.

any ideas how to get this fixed. verizon won't support it. they say they haven't seen this issue before.
mine looks just like your does. any advice would be great. Thanks

It's a design flaw, simple as that and has nothing to do with how you attach your watch. The plastic will fatigue over time. First one was covered under warranty repair ... now my second one did the same thing a few months ago so I super glue'd the part that came off and am limping along. I have two S2's on their way so most likely my S will get me by until they arrive. I'm not sure it's worth the $ to repair/get a new one ... Wait a few months and there should be TONS of S2's for CHEAP after those go got them free with S7's tire and or sell.
